3. Select the Right Respirator
EN 149:2001+A1:2009 Standard
3M Disposable Respirators meet the requirements of European Standard EN 149:2001 + A1:2009, ltering facepiece respirators for use against solid and non-volatile
clogging resistance.
Performance tests in this standard include:

+ lter penetration and extended exposure (loading) test - evaluates the ltration performance when new and over time
+ breathing resistance - evaluates the ease of breathing (inhalation and exhalation) through the respirator
+ total inward leakage - evaluates the lter penetration, valve leakage (if tted) and importantly the face seal leakage of the respirator when worn by a panel of

3M offers two qualitative t test kits FT-10 (sweet) and FT-30 (bitter); FT-10 uses a
test solution of sodium saccharin that produces a sweet tasting aerosol and FT-30
uses denatonium benzoate to produce a very bitter taste. Each kit contains a hood
and collar assembly, two nebulisers, sensitivity solution, test solution and detailed
user instructions. The choice between the bitter and sweet test kit is a personal
one, however a small percentage of the population are unable to detect saccharin in
which case the bitter test must be used. Spare hoods, nebulisers and solutions are
available for the t test kits.

User Instructions
This garment is intended to enhance the conspicuity of the wearer in both

day-time and night-time conditions, so reducing the risk of accident with a
moving vehicle. However, no high visibility warning garment can
guarantee absolute visibility and the wearer is ultimately responsible for
his/her own safety.
It is the wearers responsibility to verify that this garment is suitable for
the intended use and to ensure that the garment is maintained according
to the appropriate care conditions.
To ensure maximum visibility, the garment should be worn fully fastened
at all times and should be regularly inspected to ensure that the garment
is kept, clean and undamaged.
High-visibility warning clothing should be maintained in good condition
and inspected regularly for signs of damage or deterioration. The
garment should be replaced if it is damaged, worn or the XRrescent
fabric is faded.

Storage And Care
Always store and transport the garment in clean and dry conditions and
out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight may result in fading
of the colourHGXRrescent fabric or other deterioration of the garment or

no liability for garments which have not been stored or maintained in an
appropriate manner.
