Triggers

You can define a region on a slide in which the user can zoom top see more detail.

Screen casting

A trigger is a behavior that you apply to any object show layer, jump to a different slide or scene, play
media, open light box, submit results, etc. You can also use triggers to define your own variables and add
Java script to them.

Zoom

You can place content on top of content in layers, and then make it appear and disappear as you wish. To
make the layers appear/disappear, you use

Record your screen as a stand-alone or as part of a larger presentation. Storyline adds editable/erasable

Good Authoring Habits

Always setup the screen size for your piece before start
working the content to save a lot of time.

Give each scene, slide, layers, objects and buttons a


meaningful and unique name.

Group all the contents needed in one folder only with different
sub folders. (like movies, sounds, etc.)

Save often (press CTRL+S every after 5 or 10 minutes).

Always create a backup of your piece.

Beginning a New Project in Storyline


There are several ways to begin a new project in
Storyline from scratch:

Using the File Command/Articulate button

Types of View in storyline

Note: When you begin a brand-new story,
containing just a single empty slide. Initially,
youll see the slide in story view.

Story View

Gives

us a big-picture view of all


the content in our course project.
In this view, we can view and
arrange slides in groups called
Scenes.

How to Get Story View

Using Story View icon at the bottom of your screen.

Or, if you're in Normal View, you can also click the Story View tab just below the Storyline
ribbon:

Normal/Slide View
Is

the place where you build and customize each


slides content.

You

can edit anything about specific slide-like the


slide design, objects on the slide, timing and
animations, states, triggers, and more.

You

can also create and customize layers for your


slide, and use triggers to control when the layers
should appear.

Normal View

Scene Panels display the


different slides contain in each
scene

to respond when learners
interact with your course.

additional content on a slide at
certain points in your course or in
response to the way your

How to Get Normal/Slide View

Using Normal/Slide View icon at the bottom of your screen.

Using the Story View at the View tab on the Storyline ribbon

Or, if you're in Story View, you can double-click on any slide thumbnail to see that slide in
Normal View.

How to Get Preview

Using Preview icon at the bottom of your screen.

Using Shortcut keys:

Press F12 on your keyboard.

Press Ctrl+F12 on your keyboard to preview the current slide.

Or, press Shift+F12 on your keyboard to preview the current scene.

About your projects


STORY SIZE

The first thing you do before authoring


your piece is to set your SCREEN SIZE.
When

you begin a new project, its size will default to


720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high.

You

can change that if you like, and now's the best


time to do itbefore you add anything to your slides.

Otherwise,

when you change the size, objects on your


slides might need to be rearranged or resized in order
to look right with the new size.

Choosing a Story Size

Click the Design tab on the Storyline Ribbon.

Lock aspect ration keep the size proportions meaning if


you change the width or height, the other setting will
change proportionately.

If new size is larger


Scale

to Fit this scales the contents of your slides


to fit proportionately within the new size.

Fill

Background - This retains the current slide


background and applies it to the new size, but it
doesn't resize your slide content.
Story

Position - selector to choose where on the


slide you want your existing content to appear.
(Default is Middle Center)

Change Story Size Window

If new size is smaller

Scale To Fit - This scales the contents of your slides to fit


proportionately within the new size.

Crop - This crops your content to fit within the new size.
Click Next to use the cropping tool to choose the crop
area of each slide.

4.

Move the box to indicate the part of your


content that you want to appear on the slide.
Then either click Apply to All Slides, or use the
green arrows or the Slide field to view and crop
additional slides until you're finished. Click OK
when you're satisfied with the cropping on all
your slides.

Click OK when done.

Saving your Project file in Storyline:

Click File / Articulate Storyline Icon (

Then click SAVE

Locate where you want to save your project file.

Notes:

when you save your project in articulate storyline the file


extension is .story

Opening your Project file in Storyline:

Using the created file in storyline.

Double click the project file.

Open the articulate storyline program:

Drag & Drop the project file inside the articulate storyline
software.
