BSc/BEng/MEng Water Resources HEC-RAS Coursework

This coursework is a part of the Design Exercise.

Last Date for submission: 12th February 2016 before 4:00 pm.
Using the below given data, conduct a steady-state analysis of the open channel
flow using HEC-RAS software. Prepare a report (one report per group) discussing
the methodology you have used in completing the following tasks.
1.
2.
3.
4.

Briefly explain the theoretical background of the HEC-RAS hydraulic solver.

Prepare the channel reach and complete hydraulic analysis.
Present the graphs showing water surface profiles and your comments.
Present the graphs showing various cross-sections and water surface
elevations at each cross-section. Discuss various flooding scenarios.
5. Show the water surface profile data in a tabular format.
6. Briefly explain your interpretation of the above results (point 5).
7. Will flooding occur (how was flooding defined)?
8. Is the model adequate?
9. Are there any additional changes that need to be made to the model?
10. Complete peer-assessment sheet.

The cross section data for a river containing single reach is given below. The
cross section ID numbers are River Station 70, 75, 80, 82 and 85.
Use the following two flow profiles in the analysis
a discharge at every cross section of 40 m 3/s and a downstream boundary
condition of Normal Depth of 2 m.
a discharge at every cross section of 75 m 3/s and a downstream boundary
condition of Normal Depth of 3.75 m.
