Seminar-Workshop on

Understanding Water Quality and Complying with

Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water
Rationale
Rationale
The provision of safe water supply reduces, if not prevents,
the exposure of individuals to microbial and chemical hazards that
could be ingested through contaminated water. It is along this line
that the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water has
established threshold values for various contaminants that may
find their way to the water we drink.
A second look at the procedures and limits set in the
Standards will serve as refresher for practitioners in water quality
monitoring and surveillance. The concepts and principles behind
the water quality parameters identified in the Standards, on the
other hand, will provide an insight on how to prioritize water quality
monitoring parameters.
Compliance with the Standards can therefore be viewed not
only from the perspective of routine sampling and testing, but
more importantly from a proactive hazard-prevention point of
view.
