1.10 Special Concrete Requirements
1.10.1 Introduction
This Section covers the KSEBs requirements for concrete joints, steel reinforcement
and formwork.

after getting the clearance from the Boards Representative at site regarding
reinforcement and formwork.
Expansion joints shall be provided wherever required as shown in the approved
drawings All the materials shall conform to the relevant IS specification.
Construction joints shall be provided wherever required as specified by the Board or as
shown on the Drawings.
Reinforcement bars will be of standard quality steel bars conforming to IS 432/1966.
Ribbed Tor steel shall be Tor 50 and specification for placing Tor Steel shall conform to
Indian standards.
1.10.6 Slip form concreting
Slip form for concreting shall be used where it is considered necessary.
Equipment for slip form concreting shall be operated by experienced staff. A suspended
platform shall be arranged and used for surface treatment and curing, etc. Protection of
workmen against falling objects, etc. shall be satisfactorily arranged.
Slip form concreting shall be executed without interruptions between levels indicated on
the Drawings.
Reasonable amounts of stand-by equipment shall be available. Placing of steel
reinforcement and concreting shall follow the specifications for the ordinary concrete
works.
1.10.7 Embedding of items
Where shown on the drawings or when agreed with KSEB, the Contractor shall supply,
fix and embed in concrete (first stage as well as second stage in block-outs) and where
required further grout, such items as steel linings, pipes, edge-protecting angles, steel
grooves, anchorages for steel structures etc.
Before placing of the concrete, the items to be embedded shall be firmly fixed in place
and they shall be cleaned from oil, rust and other foreign matter.
Where plant and machinery have been supplied and erected under another contract, the
Contractor shall carry out embedding and grouting as required. Such embedding shall
be performed so that the erection work is not unduly hindered.
For second stage concrete and grout, when agreed with KSEB, rapid hardening cement
shall be sued and non-shrink ingredients of approved type be added.
Forms shall be built where necessary, care shall be taken to ensure that the concrete
fills the whole space under and around the embedded items and, where required, grout
shall be inserted under pressure of dry packing shall be used. The requirements with
regard to strength and water tightness in respect of the second stage concrete shall be
no less than for the first stage concrete.
