Background:
As a child, Avery always had a fascination with
lighthouses. His parents took him to see a few
when he was younger. He became enamored
at the concept of light being used to help people.

As he got older, it was apparent that he was a

science prodigy. He won numerous science fair
competitions, and was able to advance faster
than others his age.
Entering college at 14, Avery was chosen to
work on a project one of the professors was
conducting on using focused light as a way of
regenerating damaged tissue. While the project
met with some success, it eventually failed to
produce the results everyone had hoped for.
Avery was disappointed, especially when he
learned that some of the work he put into the
project had been adapted into a prototype laser
weapon.
Angry at the thought of his work being used to
create weapons, he confronted the professor in
charge of the project. The man admitted that
when he saw the military applications of Averys
work, he developed a laser weapon in order to
secure funding from the Military. That funding,
he argued, would allow them to continue
working on using light to heal people.
Disgusted, Avery quit the project.

Earning his degree by 16, Avery left school, and

sought funding to start his own research group.
Around the same time, he saw a battle between
some military personnel and a supervillain. The
soldiers were armed with laser weapons based
on the prototype spawned from his work.
Innocent civilians were injured in the crossfire
of these weapons, which left Avery distraught.
He locked himself in his laboratory, and started
working on a suit of powered armor that would
incorporate light based weaponry. He also
installed special cable grappling lines so he
could swing from building to building (as smart
as he is, Avery hasnt figured out a decent flight
system for the suit yet). He finished the suit by
his 18th birthday. Two days later, he attacked a
government warehouse that stored weapons
based on his earlier work. He destroyed the
weapons, and was quickly labeled a villain by
the government.
Contacting the press, he called himself
Lighthouse, and claimed his actions were to
shed light on the crimes of the military against
innocent civilians. The press called him a
crazed genius, which angered him. If everyone
considered him a villain, then a villain he
would become!

Using Lighthouse
Lighthouse doesnt really consider himself a
villain; he thinks of himself as an anti-hero,
fighting the system to expose government coverups and crimes to the public. He will typically be
involved in destroying high-tech weapon caches,
as well as research facilities that research such
weapons. He can also be found exposing
corporations that pay off government officials for
special treatment (like being awarded no bid
contracts when other companies are better
qualified for the job).

Lighthouse 2.0
As Avery continues to develop his suit, he will
incorporate new devices into the armor. These
devices will enable him to use light in new ways,
such as creating Holograms, or bending light
around the armor to make him invisible to sight.
He will even figure out how to manipulate light to
enable the armor to fly. Use the following stats
for the new and improved Lighthouse:

Powers and Tactics

Fortitude: 2D

Lighthouse is still new to being a villain. He

typically uses his light powers to first blind
opponents; if that fails, he will switch to stunning
blasts of hard light or encasing them in cubes
of hard light.

Reaction: 3D

He wont try and hurt civilians; he usually tries

to avoid combat if theyre too close to any
opponents. If there are, he will try and swing
away, so that he can face his opponent where
the chance of hurting innocents is lessened.
Hes not afraid to flee if hes outmatched. He
believes in the proverb He who fights and runs
away, lives to fight another day. Hell gladly
blind a foe then swing off, leaving them
somewhat embarrassed at letting him get away.

told to stand down. Not wanting to let the situation
get out of hand, local police ask the hero(es) to step

Colonel Freedom is backed by two dozen Paladin

Security officers, some armed with heavy weaponry.
Said weaponry is bound to cause some serious
damage to surrounding buildings. Needless to say,
when the hero(es) arrive, Freedom will tell them this
is a matter of National Security, and to butt out. Being
who they are, they likely wont follow this directive,
which could lead to a three way fight between them,
Lighthouse and Colonel Freedom and his men.

Advantages/Disadvantages:

As you can see, hes bulked up the armors defense,

removed the grappling lines for flight, and added
some new functions to manipulate light with the
holograms and light refraction powers.
As hes also established his reputation as a villain
(he still refuses to accept that he is one), his
Disreputable disadvantage has gone from minor to
major. Hes gone up 9D, and while not the kind of
threat that requires an entire team to handle, he will
be much more formidable against a hero one on one.

Story Seed
Lighthouse has learned that Palond Industries has
a new contract to produce laser weapons based on
his designs from college. Once again, he is
determined to see that his work is not used in such
a fashion, so he targets the facility the material is
made at. However, PI was expecting him to do that,
so they arranged to field test a new super-soldier
in conjunction with the U.S. Military.
When Lighthouse arrives to destroy the weapons,
he finds himself facing not only guards from Paladin
Security, but Colonel Freedom! The Colonel has
specific instructions to take Lighthouse out, and he
has been given authorization to use lethal force.
Lighthouse tries to escape, not wanting the facility
staff to get caught in the crossfire.

Note: There are 16 Operatives, all armed with assault

rifles. Their special qualities represent having hi-tech
body armor and night vision goggles.

the Colonel Freedom project by the Secretary of

Defense. He underwent an agonizing process to
enhance his body, making him super human.
Outfitted with an armored costume and equipped
with special throwing stars that can either
damage or paralyze his opponents, he spent
weeks training to be one of Americas new super
human assets.
While he was supposed to continue his training
for another two months, he was green lighted for
a field test by his superiors when they learned
Lighthouse was going to hit a Palond Industries
facility.

Powers and Tactics

Powers:

Freedom is new to being a hero, but as a trained

soldier, hes not new to being in combat. Hes
been trained to use his throwing stars first, as
they can either cause physical damage, or
incapacitate opponents via physical paralysis. If
that fails, he will try and engage in hand to hand
combat, utilizing both his newly gained super
strength, and his hand to hand combat skills.
