Planned Work at Lyde Road and Sherborne Road roundabout is a bad plan

I am concerned with the planned road works on the Lyde Road / Sherborne Road
roundabout. It is not an answer to Yeovils road problem. Traffic light control at
this junction will not help the traffic flow through Yeovil from Lyde Road or
Babylon Hill, and will make it worse.
These plans originate from 2008 and are not needed now.
The area that does cause a problem is shown in the yellow box. Preventing
traffic flow in and out of St Michaels Avenue is ridiculous. My eight points below
should be considered.

1. Dynamic traffic lights for traffic looping right from Reckleford into
Sherborne Road (by National Tyres)
2. Remove kerbed pinch point from Sherborne Road towards Newton Road
and create dual directional lanes to enable improved flow in left side lane
3. Remove pinch points and make Newton Road dual lane to allow traffic flow
in the left lane towards Yeovil Junction and in the right lane to South
Western Terrace on the one way system
4. Remove pinch points in South Western Terrace and make dual lane
allowing traffic flow in the left towards Old Station Road and in the right
lane to South Western Terrace. Install pelican crossing in place of the
zebra crossing by Pizza Hut to avoid every car stopping to allow
pedestrians crossing
5. Remove pinch points in South Western Terrace by Beefeater and make
dual lane allowing traffic flow in the left towards Central Road and in the
right lane into Middle Street. Alter the existing traffic lights to allow
straight ahead filter
6. Impose parking restrictions in Middle Street to one side only. Existing
double yellow lines are consistently abused rendering the road a single

carriageway and restricting flow of traffic in the right hand lane into
Newton Road
7. Remove the pinch points in Wyndham Street and make dual lane. Alter
the existing traffic lights to allow left and right filters.
8. Yellow box junction of Sherborne Road and St Michaels Avenue. Priority to
vehicles turning right into St Michaels Avenue from Sherborne Road. If
traffic is banned from turning right into St Michaels Avenue it will cause an
excessive rat run through Great Western Terrace or heavier traffic circling
the Wyndham Road triangle to come back on itself
The existing Lyde Road / Sherborne Road roundabout actually works well as it is.
Dual-ling further back on the Pen Mill Hotel side to create a longer right hand
filter lane, and making the roundabout bigger and more significant could be an
improvement.
It is simply not right to remove the Lyde Road / Sherborne Road roundabout and
replace with traffic lights. Yeovil should not allow this to happen. We need to
question whether plans agreed eight years ago are needed now. We need action
now before the County Council and Town Councils take another step in the wrong
direction to create #NoGoYeovil.
