AB CSP Driver
for Field Device System Integrator Modules

The Field Device System Integrator (FDSI) CSP driver

enables the integration of AB PLC5 and SLC5/05 into
aNI/A Series system over Ethernet using the Allen
Bradley Client Server Protocol (CSP).

OVERVIEW
The Field Device System Integrator (FDSI) CSP driver enables the integration of
AB PLC5 and SLC5/05 over Ethernet via TCP/IP using the Client Server Protocol.

AB CSP DRIVER BENEFITS

Using the AB CSP driver with FDSI FBMs provides the benefits described in the
following subsections.
Features of the FDSI CSP driver are:
w Integration of the AB CSP driver
into an I/A Series system using
Ethernet connectivity.
w Simplex (FBM232) or Redundant
(FBM233) operation of FDSI
Fieldbus Modules.
w Availability of standard I/A Series
plant management functions and
operator displays
w System Monitor detection of device
connectivity.
w Support of all file types in PLC5
and SLC5/05.

Easy Integration
Simply downloading the AB CSP driver to an I/A Series FDSI FBM allows you to exchange
data between the AB devices and the I/A Series system via TCP/IP, thus taking advantage of
both the power of the I/A Series system and the AB devices over the Ethernet.
I/A Series System Support
The I/A Series system supports the Client Server protocol, which accommodates the transfer
of data to and from AB PLC devices. I/A Series software also provides standard plant
management functions and operator displays for these devices, in addition to startup and
communication fault detection and display using System Monitor.
Redundancy
A pair of FBM233 modules provides redundancy at the FBM level. In a redundant configuration, one FBM serves as the Master module and the other as the Tracker module. A communication link between the two modules allows each module to monitor the other's health and to
share information about the health of the attached devices. Refer to the FDSI User Guide
BA700 AH for general network configurations.
Scanning of points takes place from both the Master and Tracker FBMs. If a device failure is
detected, the Master requests an automatic role switch and generates a system alarm.
Role-switching occurs without a loss of data. Alternatively, you can manually initiate a role
switch between Master and Tracker modules using I/A Series System Monitor. If the System
Monitor alerts you to FBM or network connection failures, you can then replace the faulty
FBM or repair the network connection without upsetting field input or output signals to
the functional side.

HARDWARE
The AB CSP driver can be downloaded to one of the following FBMs, depending on redundancy requirements:
The FBM232 provides a simplex ethernet interface between the I/A Series systemand the AB PLCs. Refer to PSS
21H-2Z32 B4.
Two FBM233s can be used to implement a redundant ethernet interface between the I/A Series system and the AB
PLCs. Refer to PSS for 21H2Z33 B4.
SOFTWARE
The CSP driver is compatible with all releases of I/A V8.0.b or later.

OPERATION
The FBM232 or 233 collects the required data from the devices, performs the necessary conversion to represent PLC data as standard I/A Series process data and then stores the converted data in its database for incorporation into the I/A Series based plant management functions and operator displays. Data may also be written
out to the individual devices from the I/A Series system.
Installation and Download
Installation of the driver does not require shutting down the I/A Series software or rebooting the I/A Series workstation. Furthermore, any updated driver can be downloaded to the FBM or FBM pair without disrupting the rest
of the I/A Series system.

CONFIGURATION
FDSI Configurator
To configure the FDSI CSP driver, you must use the FDSI Configurator software, which can be installed on a
workstation running the Windows XP operating system. The FDSI Configurator is required for configuring
Ethernet port properties of FBMs.

PRODUCT SUPPORT
The CSP Field Device System Integrator Software Driver includes 90 days of Customer Support Service with
the most recent version of I/A Series at the time of shipment. No guarantee is made or implied that Custom
Products be compatible with future products or product versions. The product also includes product media and
documentation. Engineering assistance can be provided through the normal channels.

SPECIFICATIONS
Data Type and Format
From the I/A Series control station to which the FBM232 or 233 is connected, up to 2,000 Distributed Control
Interface (DCI) data connections can be made to read or write data. A connection can be to:
w An analog input or output value (integer or IEEE single-precision floating point).
w A single digital input or output value.
w Group of packed digitals.

Number of Devices
Up to 64 devices per FDSI FBM or FBM pair maximum. The number of actual devices is performance and configuration
dependant.
Number of Points
An I/A Series control station can access up to 2,000 analog system and I/O values, or up to 32,000 digital I/O values using
packed digitals, or a combination of digital and analog values using a single FBM232 or a pair of FBM233s.
