ED WYNN / SAFE

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

2016
The Surviving Spouse And Family Endowment (SAFE) Fund, which provides financial assistance to the
families of public safety officers who lose their lives in the performance of their duties, is announcing
revisions/additions to its annual academic scholarship. The amount of the scholarship has been increased this
year to $5,000 and two scholarships will be awarded. One will go to a high school senior and one will go to a
college student or college level trade/vocational student. Winners will be notified and required to attend or send
a representative to the Larry Stewart/SAFE Memorial Golf Classic on May 16, 2016 to be recognized and
receive a certificate. Arrangements will be made to deposit scholarship money in the winners college/trade or
vocational account at the beginning of the academic year.
When Ed Wynn suddenly passed away in 1997 his family wanted to remember him in a positive and fun way,
as well as help others. His famous saying was Lets get together and laugh. The Ed Wynn Memorial
Scholarship Fund, which to date has awarded over $40,000 in financial assistance, was set up to provide an
annual scholarship to individuals who want to pursue a college education. In 2008, the Ed Wynn Memorial
Scholarship Fund became a Lifetime Member of SAFE and became known as the Ed Wynn/SAFE Memorial
Scholarship Fund.
The Ed Wynn/SAFE Memorial Scholarship Fund relies on donations from the Annual Larry Stewart
SAFE Memorial Golf Classic. Cash, in-kind-donations and door prizes from businesses and individuals
make the Golf Classic and Scholarship Fund possible.
