Celebration of the Taiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology

We celebrate the coming year of the Taiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a publication of important advances in
women's health care and promotion. Due to the signicantly
increased number of submitted papers, and the policy of rapid publication of these excellent works, we have decided to expand our
journal from four to six issues per year in the coming year, 2015
(Volume 54); that is to say, bimonthly publication of the journal
will be launched next year. We have appreciated the support of
our readers and contributors in the past few years, and also the
high-quality work that has been submitted to the journal. We are
proud that the Taiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology is
recognized as one of the leading journals in the obstetrics and gynecology eld, especially in Asia and the Asia-Pacic area. The contents of the journal might be one of the best references to
investigate the Asian population, especially the ethnic Chinese population. However, to achieve the goal of promoting women's health,
papers from Western countries or articles including systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and guidelines are welcome. Your submitted
work is given not only a rapid and high quality peer review, but also
the opportunity to be presented throughout the world. Of most
importance, this is free of charge. Free full-text downloads of
your articles help in disseminating your work to interested readers
worldwide, without limitation.
The number of free full-text article downloads from the Taiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology increased up to 70% in
2013, compared with that in 2011; the full-text article download
is very user friendly. Furthermore, this free service is continuous
under the nancial support of the Taiwan Association of Obstetrics
and Gynecology. Many popular articles have been downloaded >
100 times immediately after publication. For example, a recent
excellent review by Dr Wen et al [1], who addressed a hot and
promising topic on the role of microRNAs of normal tissues and
malignancies (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/
S1028455913001654), was the most popular download this year.
An excellent review by Villaores et al [2], who focused on the
management of Alzheimer's disease, which is predominant among
females, also attracted a great deal of interest. Topics regarding prenatal diagnosis were also a special strength of our journal. Dr Shaw
et al [3] carried out an extensive histological review of the progress
of Down syndrome screening, and this publication was downloaded to a great extent. This all suggests that our journal provides
a global view from the perspectives of perinatology, obstetrics, and
general gynecology, and also deals with the big health problems of
women, such as Alzheimer's disease. We thank these authors for
providing excellent articles for our journal.

Besides the interest of our readers in downloading and reading

the published articles of the Taiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, they also have learned much from our articles. Our
readers not only are satised with the high-quality articles they
download, but also acknowledge these articles as meaningful references for their research work. With the signicantly increased fulltext article download, many highly cited articles are worthy references for research [4e6]. These articles from our journal have
had a signicant impact on research into women's health. For
example, Dr Wu et al [4] published an excellent review discussing
the role of traditional Chinese medicine in the management of Alzheimer's disease, and this article became the top-cited article of the
Taiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2011. The second
most often cited article was a study by Drs Horng and Wang [5],
who discussed the relatively controversial issue of the use of laparoscopic surgery in the management of accidental ovarian cancer.
We encourage authors to publish these types of inconclusive ndings in our journal.
Citations to papers in our journal signicantly increased when
our journal was included in the Journal Citation Report, published
by Reuters Thomson in 2010. Our journal is now included in the collections of key libraries and institutions across the globe. We are
privileged to be the ofcial journal of the Taiwan Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Taiwan Society of Perinatology, the
Taiwan Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Taiwan Association
of Gynecologic Oncologists, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology
(Republic of China), the Taiwan Association for Minimally Invasive
Gynecology, the Taiwan Urogynecology Association, the Taiwan Association of Gynecology, the Taiwanese Menopause Society, the
Fertility Society of the Republic of China, and the Taiwan Association of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynecology. As can be seen,
the journal covers a broad range of clinical, basic, and public policy
topics in women's health.
In the coming year, we will continue to provide the most critical
coverage of these topics, and will also be introducing new editorial
features, including the new author's guide, and reprints and copyright. We welcome authors to report signicant developments in
women's health through reviews, guidelines, population-based
studies, correspondence, systemic reviews, and meta-analyses.
The submission process and publication of papers are free of
charge, and all published articles can be easily obtained using the
