OCCUPIED-UNOCCUPIED MODE CONTROL:

The occupied mode will be scheduled or manually commanded at the OWS. In the
occupied mode the air handling unit will run continuously and the minimum outside air
damper will modulate to maintain the outside air flow setpoint. In the unoccupied mode
the air handling unit will be off, the outside air damper will be closed, and the room
temperature will be monitored and compared to the night low limit and night high limit
setpoints. Upon a fall in room temperature below the night low limit setpoint, or a rise in
room temperature above the night high limit setpoint, the air handling unit will be started
and remain on until the differential is satisfied. In unoccupied mode the outside air
damper will close and the return air damper will open, associated exhaust fan will shut
down. A button will be provided on each vav terminal thermostat to provide temporary
control over the unoccupied command. Pressing the button will command the local zone
and the AHU into occupied mode for a time period set by the BAS frontend.
START-STOP CONTROL:
The air handling unit will be started and stopped as determined by the occupiedunoccupied mode control program. Upon receiving a start command the supply fan will
be started after supply and return smoke dampers are proven open via end switches and
the safeties are sastified.
VAV BOX CONTROL:
A DDC controller will sense the room temperature and maintain the room temperature
setpoints by modulating the VAV box damper in sequence with the hot water reheat
valve. On a decrease in room temperature, the damper actuator modulates from the
maximum to the minimum cooling airflow setpoint. On a further decrease in room
temperature, the damper actuator will be modulated to the minimum airflow setpoint, and
the hot water reheat valve modulated open to maintain room temperature. The reverse
sequence will occur on a temperature increase. In unoccupied mode, the VAV damper,
and hot water reheat valve will operate to maintain a night setback temperature. Upon
activation of the fire alarm system the DDC system will command all VAV boxes to
shutdown mode.
SUGGESTIONS:

Cannot do an occupied mode for individual rooms since unused rooms will have
occupants by the end of next semester.

Instead we can enter the unoccupied mode of the whole third

floor (excluding student lab) at 4pm, as oppose to 6. VAV and I
walked and saw all faculty offices empty except for two.
Since any zone with a thermostat can have an independent

schedule, we can then enter an occupied mode if the thermostat

is adjusted by the faculty. Administrative Assistant Karen Cochran
told us some faculty come back during the night to their office to
work.

Building Schedule Parameters:

Any zone with a thermostat can have an independent schedule.
Unused rooms do exist in the building, but are already accounted for
for future occupants.
Ross Hall houses laboratories whose set temperature we cannot
change. Termed Cold Weather mode, this maintains the zone at
occupied mode 24/7.

Adjustment Procedures:
Enter unoccupied mode of the whole third floor (excluding student lab)
at 4pm, as oppose to 6pm.
