Missionary Memo: Gord and Des Smith

Des and I returned from the International Association of Civil Aviation
Chaplains conference in New York on Oct 17th. The conference was
both educational and interesting. On Oct 19th as a Chaplain I ran into a
significant challenge with the chairman of our board. After calling for a
meeting of the members of Aviation Interfaith Ministry and bringing a
resolution to remove certain directors I was re-instated. Thank you to
the many people who called and prayed with me, and the many phone
calls of encouragement. The blessing for me was the ability to thank
God. In everything give thanks for this is the will of God concerning
you. Last Sunday the 20th I was asked to do a wedding and while it was
a great day for the bride, it became apparent the groom was not a
Christian. It became obvious that the Lord was at work and after I spoke
on the importance of the covenant and related it to Gods covenant with
us through Jesus Christ, the groom asked us to pray with Him. There
were three Chaplains present when he confessed that he was a sinner
and received Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Iniquity is forgetting what God has done for us. Meditating on all His
wonderful works is refreshing. The other day the thought in Psalms
103, Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
What a joy to consider and ponder all His benefits. Truly you could
spend a life time. This is called one of the spiritual sweet spots. David
refers it to a strong tower to which he runs in times of difficulty.

Saturday Evening Service:

Please join us once a month for a Saturday Evening Service at
Westbourne Church.
The kickoff will be Saturday, Jan. 23 at 6:00 pm.
*Please note there will be no Sunday Service following Sat.
evening.
On Sat. evenings we will examine questions about the truth of the
bible (apologetics).
Is Christianity true?, Did Jesus really rise from the dead?,
How can I know God exists?
Apologetics comes from the Greek word "apologia" which means
to give a defense.
In the Bible, the most famous apologetics passage is 1 Peter 3:15
where the Apostle commands believers to "sanctify Christ as Lord
in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense (apologia) to
everyone that asks you to give an account for the hope that is in
you, yet with gentleness and respect."

Westbourne Baptist Church

A story is told about a little boy who was asked by his teacher, Where
is your heart? He responded, My heart is where I sit down. The
teacher was surprised and asked, How did you get that idea? The little
boy responded with, Every time I do something good, my grandma
pats me there and says, Bless your little heart.
Jesus Christ has undertaken by His redemption to put in me a heart so pure that God
can see nothing to censure.
