HUHS students, staff support community during holidays

HUHS students and staff wasted no
time in getting ready to support their
local community during the holidays.
Thirty years ago, the Hartford
Christmas Committee created a donation
drive called Just A Name to help local families in Hartford. The past 15 years, the HClub at HUHS has been helping the same
organization by asking students to either
donate toys or money to help the cause
known as Toys for Tots.
This year, over $7200 was raised
between H-Club, FFA, and student participation. The money was then spent at

Along with the money that was raised,
over $,6000 worth of toys were also donated. The Christmas Committee was once
again very grateful for everyone's generosity, H-Club adviser, Scott Helms said.
The amounts of people that are registering to receive these gifts are going
down. This year, only 160 families registered which allows more gifts to go to
each family.
Occurring at the same time as the Toys
for Tots drive is the Giving Tree, put on by
Student Council. The Giving Tree is a dec-

orated Christmas tree filled with names of

local kids in need. Willing students then
take the tags, buy the gifts suggested,
and return the gift with the tag.
These gifts correspond directly with
Toys for Tots. Both drives work together to
try and accumulate the most gifts for the
families in need. Common necessities
listed on the tags were clothing, diapers,
and toys, depending on the ages of the
people, student council member Melissa
Clement said.

Police Blotter
The following report was taken from
records at the West Bend Police
Department.
Disorderly conduct
Police arrested three subjects as
a result of a disturbance at a residence
in the 100 block of E. Washington
Street Dec. 30. At 11:37 p.m., police
responded to a report of a fight and
on arrival, three males fled on foot.
Officers pursued the males and after
short foot pursuits all three subjects
were taken into custody. The investigation determined a 20-year-old West
Bend man and a 19-year-old
Milwaukee male had engaged in a
physical altercation at the residence.
Both men were arrested for disorderly
conduct, obstructing an officer and an
underage alcohol violation. A 19-yearold West Bend male was arrested for
obstructing an officer and an underage alcohol violation.
