Discover the

heavenly bodies in
Solar System

Can you???
Name the parts
of the Solar
System?

Do you know
what Solar System
is?

For your information

The Solar System centers the

Sun, an ordinary member of huge
group of stars swirling around in a
huge pin wheel-shaped mass called
Milky Way.
The parts of the Solar System
The Sun

The sun is the central member of

the Solar System. Its gravitational
force holds the other members in
orbit and governs their motions.
The Planets
The largest and most massive
members of the solar system, after
the sun, are the nine planets. The
planets travel around the sun the
sun in regular orbits that are nearly
circular in shape. Mercury`s orbit
lies nearest the sun, next is Venus,
then Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

Let`s play with the

patterns of stars in the
sky..

Discover the
patterns of stars in
the sky

Can you???
Notice that group of
stars seem to form
outlines of animals,
objects, or man.

Do you know what

Constellation is?
Have you observed
the group of stars
during cloudless
night?
What are the forms
have you observed?

For your information

Most stars in the night sky can be
seen either with the naked eye or
with help of special instruments
like telescope. Group of star5s
that form certain patterns are
called constellations.
Stars that resemble an oldfashioned water dipper form
the constellation Big Dipper, it
is made up of seven stars and

a part of Ursa Major or Big

Bear.
Little Dipper is a part of Ursa
Minor or the Small Bear where
the Polaris or North Star
located.
Opposite of the Big Dipper is
another famous constellation
known as Cassiopeia, the Queen.
This constellation consists of five
stars that seem to form the letter
W.
Another well-known
constellation in the sky is Orion,

the Great Hunter. Orion consists

of several bright stars, three of
which form its belt popularly
called Tatlong Maria.

Go out and observe the group of

stars on cloudless night
What are the outline formed
have you noticed?
Draw the star patterns in
your note book . Use a dot to
represent the stars.

Connect the dots with

straight lines.
Share your observations and
drawings with your
classmates. What patterns
that you have in common
with your classmates?

What have you learned???

1. What is Constellations?

2. Name the four common

constellations observed in
the night sky.

Discover how the

Universe came into
being.

Can you???
Explain the
origin of the
Universe??

How the Universe

came into being?

For your information

Most astronomers accept the

expanding universe hypothesis known
as the Big Bang Theory. According to
this theory, the universe started as
one very hot and dense concentration
of matter exploded with its fragments
moving outward and away from one
another at different speed. According
to this theory, the universe continues
to expand.
Another theory explaining the
origin of the universe is the Big
Crunch Theory. Some astronomers
believe that the universe began from
the Big Bang explosion of a dense

globe of hydrogen. However because

of the force of gravity, billions of
galaxies moved towards one another.
Some astronomers believe that
universe is expanding but its
expansion is similar to its original
state and will not change anymore.
This theory is called the Steady
State Theory.
Another theory is the Nebular or
Dust Cloud Theory. According to this
theory, planets, stars, and other
heavenly bodies came from dust of
clouds. These materials combined
together as they spinned in space.
They later moved around a central

body and cooled off. The big spinning

materials formed the heavenly bodies.

Research on how the

universe came to be.
Take down notes
about the origin of the
universe.
Consult Science
Encyclopedia to

collect more
information.
Identify the following
theories about origin of
the universe.
1._______ according to this
theory, the universe
started as one very hot
and dense concentration
of matter.

2. ______It is believe that

the universe began from
the Big Bang explosion of
a dense globe of hydrogen.
3. ______ It is believe that
the universe is expanding
but its expansion is
similar to its original state
and will not change
anymore.

4. _______ According to
this theory, planets, stars,
and other heavenly bodies
came from dust of clouds.
