FINAL TASK : SCREEN ADDICTION

Aprs avoir travaill plusieurs semaines sur divers documents et les diffrentes comptences , je vais tre valu(e)
de manire plus importante sur la prise de parole en interaction lors dun dbat sur le thme :

The impact of New Technologies : Have we become screen-addicts ? Have we reached the point of noreturn?

You are taking part in The ARENA , a debate-style Television Show produced
by CBS on the Impact of New Technologies on children and teenagers hosted by
a famous TV presenter and talk show host.
The issue that will be discussed on todays show is the addiction to new
technologies. We will try to answer these 2 questions: Have we become screenaddicts ? Have we reached the point of no-return?
You will be assigned a role and you will get involved in the main debate .
You are expected to defend your opinion about the subject.
Your performance will be assessed by several judges.

Lors de ce dbat il faudra que :

Je me glisse dans la peau dun personnage lavis bien tabli.

Jarrive trouver ma place et intervienne rgulirement.

Je trouve des arguments pertinents, laide de ce qui aura t dit en classe, et les expose
dans la langue la plus correcte possible en faisant appel des Gap fillers et
linkwords appropris.

Jutilise des expressions propres loralit ou bien propre lchange verbal, vues en classe,
du type : je ne suis absolument pas daccord , cest faux ! etc ( DEBATING :Tool Box)

Je sois le plus authentique possible sans tomber dans lamusement.

THE
ROLES

a teenage girl /boy who cannot live without her/his techy stuff and who spends most
of her/his free time chatting online on social networking sites , sharing photos and videos
online. She/he tries to convince the audience that it is the best way to communicate.
a 42-year-old father/mother who has his son/daughter as a friend on Facebook and
who spends long hours with him/her playing video games or texting.
a father/mother who thinks that new technologies are the best way to keep an eye on
his/her children .She/he has just bought a new software LIVESPY and she intends to use
it to control them.
a student who was grounded by his/her parents for a year after she/he got expelled
from school for using his/her cellphone in class . He/she explains how he/she has
become a slave to his /her cellphone. He/she tries to convince that cellphones are now
part of our daily lives and that teachers should do with them and tolerate them in class.
A teenager who has decided to unplug next March on National Day of Unplugging .He
/she explains the reason why he/she will join in this global movement.
a 17-year-old teenager who is not interested in new technology at all and who has no
need for a cellphone , a computer or Internet. She /he tries to convince the audience
that it is not vital and that everyone can do without techy stuff.
An online expert whose job is to warn people against the danger of digital overuse
and screen addiction.
The father /mother whose son/daughter suffers from social isolation. He/she is a
school safety consultant who talks to teenagers against the most common dangers of
screen addiction.
A tech-addict who has tried a digital detox and relates his/her experience.
A sales executive in charge of promoting a new trend for hotels and resorts : Digital
Detox Retreats . He/she tries to convince that everyone can benefit from the experience.

La premire chose que je dois faire lors de ce dbat va tre de :

prsenter lmission de tlvision en question

prsenter le thme du dbat

prsenter les deux camps

donner la parole chaque intervenant pour quil se prsente.

Cette premire partie, je dois la prparer, ne rien laisser au hasard afin dtre laise ds le dbut.

Je prpare 1 question pour chaque intervenant au cas o le dbat se ralentisse et que plus personne
ne dise rien. Mon rle est avant tout de faire que le dbat soit vivant .
Il se peut que le dbat prenne une tournure de conflit entre deux intervenants .Je dois modrer le
dbat, arrter les deux personnes dans le calme et relancer ensuite. Pour cela je prpare quelques
expressions pour intervenir et en finir avec la dispute.
Je note quelques expressions de la fiche DEBATING : Tool Box que je devrai imprativement
remployer lors du dbat.
Je prpare une conclusion au dbat et une fin lmission.
Je prpare une fiche de prsentation lisible avec mon nom et mon rle, de manire trs brve afin
qu chaque moment du dbat, les autres participants sachent qui je suis. Au dos de ma fiche , jai le
droit dinscrire quelques mots ou expressions cls pour maider dans ma tche.
