Overview of the Divisions mission


In line with the Directorate objective to maintain and improve the capability and competitiveness of Industry in the
world satellite communication market, the Technologies and Product Division is implementing ARTES 3-4, 5.2 and 5.1
research and development activities according to a work plan or in response to industry proposals. The main focus is
product development, from the development of enabling technology through to product qualification/industrialisation
for ground, spacecraft and payload applications.
Overview of the field of activity proposed
The activity proposed for this Young Graduate Traineeship is covering two main areas:
1.

There are about 300 research and development activities running under the ARTES 3-4, 5.1 and 5.2
programmes. In addition, at any given time, a large number of future activities are at various stages of
preparation. Existing software tools are in place to manage these research and development activities
throughout their life cycle, from project conception through to project completion. These tools require
further development as part of an on-going programme of process improvement.

New management tools need to be developed in accordance with identified needs. This will require
management of the whole software development process, including requirements gathering, software
design, software implementation, software/process documentation and user training.
Educational and other requirements

Applicants should have just completed, or be in their final year of a University course at Masters Level (or equivalent)
in a technical or scientific discipline. Applicants shall have good Microsoft Officeskills (Word and Excel) and a
good working knowledge of the Java programming language and database technology. Basic knowledge of business
management would be an asset.
Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multi-cultural
environment, both independently and as part of a team.
Applicants must be fluent in English and/or French, the working languages of the Agency. A good proficiency in
English is required.

or Canada as a Cooperating State, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia as European Cooperating States
(ECS).
