AIM:
To study the basic concept of GPS and GSM Module by using an integrated
module RTD 16035 designed for marine, mobile and automobile applications.
APPARATUS REQUIRED:
1. RTD COM 16035 Module 1.
2. System PC.
3. Power Supply as per requirement.
Study of GSM:
GSM is an acronym for Global System for Mobile Communications. GSM calls
are either based on data or voice. Voice calls use audio codecs called half-rate, full-rate
and enhanced full-rate. Data calls can turn the cell phone into a modem operating at 9600
bps. An extended GSM feature is high speed circuit switched data, allowing the phone to
transmit up to around 40 kbps. In an PC, GSM modem is inserted with a SIM card
provided by the network service provider, which supports the data transfer. This SIM has
a dedicated number for dialing.
Remote PC talks to Poly phase meter through land line MODEM or GSM
modem. Application S/W on PC dials the remote GSM modem number. Once the line
gets connected, PC application S/W sends commands to Poly phase meter to get the
required data. Data received by the PC application S/W is formatted and shown to the
user.
The following paragraphs briefly describe the major features of the COM16035.
A more detailed discussion is included in Hardware description and in the Board
Installation.
HARDWARE DESCRIPTION:
Connector description:
The GPS and GSM antenna interfaces use an OSX type miniature coaxial
connector. Connect your antenna directly to the COM16035 antenna connectors, or use a
short cable inside your enclosure to connect to a feed through connector to allow
connection of the antennas to the wall of your enclosure. All I/O connections are made
using header type terminals.
BOARD INSTALLATION:
The COM16035 GSM modem module is designed to directly mount on
top or under your RTD PC/104 cpuModule stack.
RESULT:
Thus the study of GSM and GPS module are studied and discussed above.
