Linked to this Service Bulletin, an EASA Airworthiness Directive is expected to be issued DEC 2015.

1. Retrofit Purpose
Starting from March 2015 several batches of non-conforming Aft Engine Mount Inner Retainer Brackets were
either fitted on aircraft powered by CFM56-5A/-5B Engines in production or delivered to Operators and
maintenance organizations by the part supplier Goodrich Aerostructures.
Investigation identified that retainer P/N 238-0252-505 has different surface finishing which could be a
negative factor to the life of the inner retainer bracket.
Inspection Service Bulletin A320-71-1060 covered by EASA AD 2013-0050 was previously issued to perform
a one-time inspection and replace damaged Dull finish Retainers by Bright ones.
AIRBUS SB A320-71-1070 is requiring an inspection for any installed inner retainer brackets or spare parts
originated from the reported suspected batch of units as per Goodrich Aerostructures SB RA 32071-165.
Affected retainers must be replaced by conforming Parts.
Operators having accomplished AOT A71N011-15 prior to SB A320-71-1070 issuance do not have to apply
SB A320-71-1070.
SB A320-71-1070 enables the identification and replacement of the non-conforming retainers PN 238-0252505 from the affected population.
This AIRBUS monitored retrofit campaign is applicable to:
1. A320 Family aircraft with affected retainers PN 238-0252-505 fitted on engines listed in SB RA
32071-165
2. Operators having purchased retainers PN 238-0252-505 with Purchase Order references listed in
SB RA 32071-165.
3. Operators having installed retainers PN 238-0252-505 which may come from an affected Purchase
Order batch listed in SB RA 32071-165.

2. Retrofit Organization
Aircraft will be inspected by the Operator/MRO
1)

AIRBUS requests the Operator to return the RIL Appendix completed with A/C details and Operator's
contact for the retrofit and embodiment planning.

2)

Material Delivery planning will be defined by the AIRBUS Retrofit Department.

The Operator will place a Purchase Order with Goodrich Aerostructures Group for the material to be
ordered.

3)

P/N 238-0252-505 units affected in accordance with SB RA 32071-165 must be returned to the
Supplier.

4)

Goodrich Aerostructures Group will return compliant units to the Operator/MRO in accordance with
the quantity of units returned.

5)

After the accomplishment of the inspection on impacted aircraft, Airbus requests the Operator to
activate the usual reporting method (AirbusWorld or sb.reporting@airbus.com).

3. Retrofit Program
The SB associated with this retrofit program is MANDATORY and must be accomplished before the AD
compliance timeframe.
AIRBUS Retrofit Department will support the Operators up to this date as per below conditions.
