What is a Drama?
The purpose of a dramatic storyline is to move the audience emotionally. Drama
films depend mostly on the development of realistic characters dealing with
emotional issues.
What is a romance?
A romance is a love story that focuses on passion, emotion and affection which
usually results in a Happily ever after. Love is seen as a journey as characters in a
romance tend to strengthen their relationship through dating, courtship, etc.
Furthermore, romantic films explore the essential themes of love at first sight, high
school sweethearts, obsessive love, forbidden love, etc.
The subgenreRomantic drama
A romantic drama is a type of drama subgenre that centres its narrative on a
romantic conflict. It usually involves a couple that struggle to unite or stay united and
then frequently ends with a tragic or some sort of negative circumstance. Obstacles
blocking the love story often fall into several categories. For example, social
obstacles such as class, illness, cultural, economic or racial differences are some of
the most popular to occur. Others include another love interest or some kind of affair
and in more unique cases psychological restraints such as repression, confusion,
abuse etc.
In the time period of 1896, films were not seen to be very long like they are
today. The first romantic movie was said to be created by Thomas Edison
which was approximately 18 seconds long.
He created the first movie which featured a romantic scene. This scene
featured a kiss. The film was called The May Irwin Kiss.
Dilini Gorsia
The actor apparently staged their kiss for the camera at the request of the
New York world newspaper and then resulted in being the most popular
Edison Vitascope film during that time period.
All modern theatre arts are still based on innovations introduced by Greeks
thousands of years ago.
As a result, Greeks were one of the first to create the first dramas in
theatres which is where dramas had initially started up.
No one actually knows when people began acting out plays which is where
dramas emerged from. Whilst we are uncertain of where and how it all began
most know that the Greek embraced theatre as a means to worship their
mythical gods.
