FHP Wireless Harvard Case Study #3
Introduction
FHP Wireless is a company founded by Devabhaktuni
Srikrishna and Narasimha Chari in 2000. The two of them
met during their time at college, after which they united and
shared an idea, that internet should be available to anyone
and anywhere. With technology back then, many nations
couldn't provide internet for the poor parts of it.
Problem statement
After some research on whether network of series of routers
could connect to one another, without any wires between
them, they started the project. Initially, while they were
building up the first models of their wireless system, they
came to some genuine problems, like low scope of their
system, adaptability and static status. As they continued
their research, the two of them saw a solution. The solution
was that they really needn't bother with every single one of
the hubs for correspondence, as they utilized them. They
need just one, the one which is building up the most ideal
correspondence. After resolving the primary issue of their

project, they composed some calculations which really led

them for establishing their FHP wireless, and initalize the
project with the new-born company.
Environmental analysis
This case clarifies the issue of conveying Internet access to
poor parts of India. It is extremely costly and in fact
requesting to give Internet access to all territories in India, in
light of the fact that it would require advancement and usage
of a substantial wired system.
As they added to their fundamental models, composed the
calculations and run a stage forward with their studies, the
time had come to really start the company. They knew that
they had to hire advertisers to help them. After little of
searching, they met two advertisers, Christian Dubiel and
Jonathan Goldstein who offered them some assistance for
the company. They reached their associations and helped the
founders raise more than a million dollars, to shape the
organization. Also, they had to approach quite experienced
tech guy, Dave Hanna, who was exceptionally renowned in
the realm of innovation at the time. He had a spot of the CEO
in FHP and offered the group some assistance with pursueing
their objectives. Their idea was to cover all San Francisco
with the wirless networks. In principle, it was conceivable,
yet, when they learned what are the measure of cash that it
takes to cover a territory size of San Francisco, they came to

colossal numbers, in regards to the costs of wireless

hardware at the time, which were expensive.
Also, the second issue that was slowing them down, was the
openness to the wireless systems. The gadgets that were
delivered at the time, didn't empower individuals to unite
with the systems since it had no wireless card coordinated. In
the event that a client needed to join, one would need to
purchase a different card that was costing quite considerable
amount at that time.
FHP began discovering their first customers and began going
for the ones who required these systems, which were
hospitals, schools, factories and so forth. Their first deals
were not such an accomplishment, since interest was not
that enormous and the parts for producing were excessively
costly.
Alternative strategies
The company didn't get an extraordinary accomplishment at
the first cycle, however they enhanced the item to end up
less demanding to utilize and significantly more secure. But
neither after that, FHP saw no greater achievement, and
could locate no new investors. What was left for FHP to do
was to change region of ability. They went ahead to work
with enormous urban communities, information transfers
transporters and discovered new business zones inside of
their organization. The solution was a product to hop the

information starting with one access point then onto the

next, in this manner uniting up to 50 hubs for every single
backhaul to Internet. It actualized a calculation which picks
the most brief way accessible, so sure hubs are skipped, but
the required transfer speed was lower. This gave ease of use
to the entire system.
Recommendation
My suggestion is not going to be a major one as far as their
undertaking, as they truly ventured out in front of their time
and truly expected what's to come. We realize that these
days, we all have gadgets that can connect with the web
with wireless, without purchasing some costly gear, as in
their time, which was one of their primary issues. Their
system likewise preceded the ones which we have today,
and

their

advancement

actualized

different

wireless

incorporations and systems, which at last prompted the

systems we have today. Only mistake, if I can say like that, in
the light of the fact that it wasn't their mistake, is the wrong
timing. World wasn't prepared for their wireless system, with
implemenations of it, likewise, being excessively costly.
