Development and growth of the ASEAN countries have increased through the past decade that
strengthens even stronger cooperation among them. Such cooperation in the ASEAN region has grown
in frequency and not just limited to political affairs among each government, but also extended to the
fields of other social concerns, such as law and human rights, economy, education, culture, and even

national security. Being inspired by this condition, on 18 May 1989, a group of Indonesian Law
Students came with the idea of forming an organization where they could foster better relations, as well
as promote understanding and appreciation of different legal systems of ASEAN member countries,
along with building friendship among other law students
throughout ASEAN borders.
Simulated by the spirit of picturing
The idea came to a realization by the establishment of ASEAN a bright future of Asia and Asian
Law Students’ Association (ALSA) in the very same year, with countries within it, ALSA sets up its
visions, which are:
the members of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and - To focus a global vision on the
Philippines. The same associating spirit, in fact, was also felt by promising future of Asia

youngest member.

Thus, until this current time, ALSA has the following official members: Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong,
Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Up to the current time, ALSA
is embarking a programmatic approach in extending its membership to other Asian countries to ensure
on the existence of a broad perspective in accordance with the very spirit of ALSA.

Greetings, we write this proposal on behalf of ALSA International Board, which is the
highest administrative body in our organization, seeking your support to organize our
very first integrated academic program. As Asia’s largest law students association, ALSA
which comprises of more than 20.000 members from across the region, has the main
objectives to produce legally skilled, socially responsible and internationally minded
students. In accordance with such objectives, ALSA International Board hereby wishes to
organize its very first ALSA International Academic Program (AIAP) with the theme
“Empowering Future Leaders of Asia through Legal Enrichment” which will be held in

Jakarta, from June 1 – 8 2009.

This event also provides a unique opportunity for the delegates, not only to interact with
peers from different, explore and immerse themselves in a range of diverse cultures, share
ideas and knowledge regarding the administration of different organizations but also the
chance to promote Indonesian culture. Most importantly, this event will allow students from
around the globe to establish networks which will help support future collaboration in
legal/political career as selection and participation in this event represents the most
motivated of students with potential to be future leaders in the various field of law.

There will be performances from each


participating country, which will fully
show the diverse culture of Asian
countries, to establish understanding
and friendship among delegates despite
cultural, religious and ideological
differences. The welcoming party will
take place at the hotel lobby

(2) City Tour / Cultural Trip

After all the academic activities have


been conducted, participants will visit
various cultural highlights such as
Fatahillah Museum, Jakarta Old City,
National Museum, and many more.

(3) Outbound

In AIAP, participants will not only have


their capabilities cultivated in various
legal matters, but also exposed to the
open-air activities that foster them to be
socially and environmentally
responsible. Participants are expected
to indulge themselves in the beauty of
green environment, diversities of nature
and various living creatures in Safari
Park by experiencing farming activities,
environmental educations, and
adventure across the Park.

(4) Farewell Party

This event is intended to mark the end


of the AIAP Seminar where delegates
will get a chance to give their last
performances.
