Questions:
1. What is the importance of learning child and adolescent psychology in relation to your teaching career?

Psychology is the study of human mind. Child and adolescent psychology is

basically the study of human behavior from birth up to the age of 18. What is the
importance of learning and studying these in relation to my teaching career?
Child and adolescent psychology is very important for a teacher like me
because by understanding children and youth, we can equip them to become welladjusted, more adaptable adults who are capable of living rich and purposeful
lives. We can help them go through crises, and enrich their daily lives by
interacting in ways that are appropriate to their developmental levels. It will be
beneficial to ask because knowing the child or the learner; we can easily decide
what approach we should do to them to increase their learning ability. Another thing
is discipline. If we learn all of these, we are now able to understand the causes of
misbehaving students in class. As the passage saysIt is the nicest work that was
ever entered upon by the human agent, the dealing with human mind. Teachers are
to consider that they are not dealing with angels, but human beings with like
passions as they themselves have. Characters are not formed in one mold.
It never helps a student to be humiliated before the whole school. It creates a
wound that mortifies. It heals nothing, cures nothing. FCE, p. 277.
2. Based on your childhood upbringing and experiences, how would you relate yourself with the
children/adolescents in your classroom?

I am the only child of my mother and father but my mother left when I was
three. My grandmother raised me. She became my mother and gave me everything
I wanted. When I started school, most of my classmates have siblings. I saw them
getting picked up by their parents with either younger or older sibling. I was a little
envious but I still excelled in class. I even got the highest honor when I was in grade
1 maybe because I was pushed by my parents and they had nobody to push except
me. All the attentions were to me but I never became a brat as they say. I was still
disciplined and obedient all the time. Being one of the best in class continued until
half of high school years. And in college years, I became laid back in my studies. It
was enough for me to get just a passing grade. I became rebellious and tried
everything like smoking and drinking. I was easy go lucky in school as they say but I
still managed to finish my studies.
