Getting a full-time Job at 16 in Britain.

You can leave school at 16 and get a job, but you can't work full time
until the last Friday in June- even if you have turned 16 before this.
There are also limitations on where you can work because of your
age. For example, you won't be able to take a job which envolves
driving, because you are not legally allowed to drive until you are 17.
When thinking about getting a job when you leave school, you need
to think about the future, not just the present. How about learning
while you earn? Try to find a job which offers training even if it pays
less! Getting a job with training that leads to a qualification will help
you progress in your work and when the time comes to move you will
have relevant experience and qualifications.
When you apply for a job, make sure you ask what training or opportunities are available.
You will need to find out whether it is in-house ( run by the company you are working for) or
external (through a training provider, perhaps a college).
If you are 16 or 17 and you do decide to take a job that isn't offering you training that leads to
a qualification, you may be entitled to time off for study or training during normal working
hours. If you decide you are going to look for a job at 16 when you finish Year 11, you will be
entitled to receive the national minimum wage.
