1)Turbulenceorretentiontimeoffluidswhichaffectheattransfermore.
2)whydoincreasingvelocityofcoldfluidintubesnotincreaseheattransferratherdecreaseitwhereassameisopposite
whenweincreasevelocityofhotfluid?

Asdemonstratedintheequationabove,neitherturbulenceorretentiontimeisdirectlyinvolvedintheheattransfer
calculation.
However,turbulence(ReynoldsNumber)istheimportantfactorforthefilmcoefficientandfilmresistance,whichare
includedintheequationofoverallheattransfercoefficientU.
Retentiontimeisreflectedbythelengthofaheatexchangershellandtubes,whichis,interm,oneofdeterminefactortothe
heattransferareaA.
Youhavetodefinethefluidflowregimevariationlimitandtheretentiontimechangerangetodiscusswhichvariablehas
moreimpacttotheamountofheattransferred.

Actually,aheatexchangewilltransmoreheatforafasterflowfluidthanslowerflowfluidbecauseofbetterUvalue.Faster
flowfluidmayhavelesstemperaturechangethroughtheheatexchangerbutmorevolumepassesthroughtheheat
exchanger.OverallexchangerQislarger.
Asanotherexample,whenthecoldsidetemperaturereachesthesametemperatureasthehotside(LMTD=0)or
temperaturecrossingoccursinsideheatexchanger,nomatterhowlongtheretentiontimeis,thereisnoheattransferatall.
