FERDİ İNANLI

Although there are different impressions of place there are also similar impressions of a
place as well

I examine that the personality, the intelligence and other main characteristics of an
individual can be measured in human behavior and the skills also be used in assessment of
physical settings.

I’ll go by question to question from beginning the first to the 18.th results/ answer
Answers of my first question Description ⇒ What is it? are usually (% 75) because of friends
and the place’s culture. They prefer Konur because of its preference by youngest (15-25 years old
peoples) and history and popularity. I think they are the same answers which you do not separate
one from other (they feed back each other)

Second question is about how many years they hang to Konur Street. Answers of people
younger then 18 is 1-3 but answers of 18-23 are 3-5+ so I find an average age to when people
start to hang Konur Street. They start to hang Konur when they were at 14-15 years old and
continue to hang there at list 3-5 years.
Third question is about Meaning ⇒ What is its significance? They sign important places
of Konur Street for me. All of them call first of all Dost bookstore and answers continues by
Leman, bridge, Ormancı and Imge bookstore. They think that these are the symbols of the Konur
Street and the “punks and the “rockers”. (This is a part of their “cognitive map” of Konur Street)

Fourth question is about when they start to hang Konur? They usually start to hang there
when they are at high school. Some of them start to hang there when they were at secondary
school and some of them start more lately when they prepare to university (they come to
“Dershane”s in Kızılay).

Fifth question is about Emotions ⇒ How does it make me feel?. How do you feel
when you are in Konur? Answers are concentrate about freedom. They think they are happy
(%75), free (%75), lively, and nice. Some of them think that they can be themselves at only there.
Some of them think there is more familiar (places and peoples), active, pessimist, activist. I make
interpret to their answers. They saw Konur as a symbol of freedom because it is a politic scene
for leftist or socialist parties like “Ödp” and “Tkp” and the marches start from Konur and go to
Yüksel.

Sixth question is about Description ⇒ What is it? where they most like in Konur Street?
They all tell first the Dost bookseller. Second answers are change to person to person. Second
answers are % 50 leman % 50 bridges. Other answers are Imge bookseller, Ormancı, Ezgi café,
some other cafes, uctea chambers of architecture and local of Mülkiyeliler. By this question I find
the most significant places of Konur Street.

Seventh question is about Evolutions ⇒ Is it good? Description ⇒ What is it? how

many times they use there? People older then 20 answers this question 2-3 hours but the youngest
(high school students give more big numbers (they exaggerate) like almost all they and more then
5 hours.

My eight questions is about Description ⇒ What is it? their age, sex and educational
statue. They are between 17-25. Medium age is 21. two girls and six boys answer my question.
Two of them high school student five of them is university student.

9th question is about Concern ⇒ Does it mater? Meaning ⇒ What is its significance?
do you see any changes in Konur Street? They answer (%100 percent) the peoples who hanging
there. In other words users are change and they say users age is decrease to 12-13 from 16-17.
These questions answers are more long (actually the longest.). They think that there are too many
cafés around Konur and they too close the street (moreover in the street). One of the biggest
problem is sitting place in Konur Street. They say that they could sit front of Dost Bookseller
before two years ago but after the fences they could not sit there (because they cannot find a
place to sit. They can only sit the ground. They say there is no bench on the street so they have to
sit in a café. Other problems are “seyyar satıcılar”, “gül satan amcalar” and işportacılar”
10th question is about Emotions ⇒ How does it make me feel? Description ⇒ What is
it? is Konur functional or formal? They first do not understand the question and say me ask again
and by which view. %50 say it is functional and % 50 says it is formal. It is functional because
they find a place to sit, eat and drink. It is formal because the people hanging there are more
colorful, come there because it is a image.

Eleventh question is about Description ⇒ What is it? they come there singular or with a
group of people(friends). They all (%100 percent) say group. Some of them say they never go
Konur alone but many of them (boys actually) say they sometimes go there single (alone).

12th question is about Emotions ⇒ How does it make me feel? Meaning ⇒ What is
its significance? what Konur reminds them (what is the meaning of it for you?).People older then
21 say the past and their teen ages. 21- answer this question is home, freedom, friends. There is a
significant answer it is the politics and the politic scene, marches.

Thirteenth question is Meaning ⇒ What is its significance? do you think there is a place
where like Konur Street or a Street Which Konur likes? They tell that Yüksel is the closest place
which like Konur and Karanfil is look like Konur too. They tell that Konur is look like small
beyoğlu (especially İstiklal Street).

14th question is about Meaning ⇒ What is its significance? what they do in Konur
Street? They tell that (% 75) eating and drinking, the second popular answer is meeting and the
other is just hanging.

15th question is Emotions ⇒ How does it make me feel? do you think Konur is enclosed
place or open? They (% 87.5) say it is inner oriented and enclosed because they think that people
who hanging Konur Street knows each other, likes each other. They say if they look as a
architecture it is a open air public scene.

Sixteenth question is about Evolutions ⇒ Is it good? Aesthetic ⇒ Is it beautiful?

Concern ⇒ Does it mater? is there any problem do you see in Konur Street? They think that
Konur become more problematic place in last two years. Reasons of them are surrounded cafes
and their close places (they narrowed the street), crowd, sitting places (like front of Dost),
facias(tabelas) of shops, “bridge”, new stores like Limon Bazaar and Dünya Bazaar.
17th question is about Description ⇒ What is it? Emotions ⇒ How does it make me
feel? is Konur inner oriented or outer? They all called inner-oriented because they think Konur is
the origin. They all think that the faces they see in Konur are familiar from somewhere.

My last question is about which times they hang Konur? “Olds” answer this question
saying by after 17-18 to 21 o’clock. “ News” answers it by saying after school to where it goes. I
find the most crow time by this question it is the 18-19 o’clock, but it can change in weekends
and jump to 19-20 o’clock.

My public survey’s result usually does not surprise me to much. Answers are like my
appraisals content. My aim by asking these questions are to find number and variety of artifacts
in Konur Street (facilities, objects, places and their variety), traits (quality and feature) of Konur
Street (is the place inviting people), typical behaviors occurs in typical setting (Konur Street)
(some places support more activities, some are more significant, known….) and institutional
attributes about Konur Street (social climate)

In conclusion most of efforts in environment assessment depends on natural environment

rather then indoor like Konur Street; it is an open-air public scene (political, social and cultural
scene)
