PVC pressure fittings

Version 4.1

Manufacturer: VDL

The pressure fittings range comprises an extensive series of injectionmoulded PVC tube fittings for PVC pressure pipe systems as
well as PP fittings for PE pipe systems.
The pressure fittings are suitable for use in irrigation systems, drinking
water systems, sanitary equipment and swimming pool systems. The materials used have been KIWA-ATA
approved. The white VDL fittings comply with the same standards as the grey fittings but they are not suitable
for application in drinking water systems. Especially for drip irrigation systems, combined PVC/PE glue/clamp
couplings are available, with or without ball valve.

Seed box coupling

Version 4.1

Manufacturer: VDL

Revaho supplies the VDL Seed box coupling specially for drip irrigation in
mobile cultivation systems. This coupling allows for pressurised watering in
rotating systems. It ensures a reliable water supply without constantly
having to make connections by hand. If the cultivation gutters or tables are
placed in a row, the connection will be made automatically. The result is a
continuous connection between the cultivation gutters and/or tables, which allows for easy water supply by
means of an automatic coupling unit (on one end or both ends of the row). As soon as a cultivation gutter or
table is removed from the row, the connection is interrupted to allow for sideways movement of the gutter or
table.
A system of non-return valves in the seed box coupling prevents the drip hose from emptying when moved
sideways. The coupling is therefore particularly suitable if the system is frequently rotated. The seed box
coupling, which can be mounted above or under the cultivation gutter, is fitted with a male and a female
coupling piece and a coupling tube. The coupling tube can be ordered to size, depending on the width of the
cultivation gutter or table.
The drip hose can be connected to either the male or the female piece (or both), which are suitable for PVCPE (knee) joints of 25 mm (inside) or 20 mm (outside) and for 8 mm PE hose.
The seed box coupling is only suitable for use with the Chameleon dripper. For mobile systems in particular,
the coupling is available in cultivation gutter widths (multiple widths on a coil with coupling unit), with extra
short micro tube (from 15 cm) or with Rapier or Prevo pin.

Eco coupling

Version 4.1

Manufacturer: VDL

Just like the seed box coupling, the Eco coupling is used for drip irrigation in
mobile cultivation systems. The main difference however is that the Eco
coupling does not have non-return valves, but rather an open 50 mm
continuous joint, which makes the Eco coupling ideally suitable for mobile
systems which are rarely rotated. The Eco coupling allows for pressurised watering in rotating systems. It
ensures a reliable water supply without constantly having to make connections by hand. If the cultivation
gutters or tables are placed in a row, the connection will be made automatically. The result is a continuous
connection between the cultivation gutters and/or tables, which allows for easy water supply by means of an
automatic coupling unit (on one end or both ends of the row). As soon as a cultivation gutter or table is
removed from the row, the connection is interrupted to allow for sideways movement of the gutter or table.
The Eco coupling, which can be mounted above or under the cultivation gutter, is fitted with a male and a
female coupling piece and a coupling sleeve. The coupling tube can be ordered to size, depending on the
width of the cultivation gutter or table.
The drip hose can be connected to either the male or the female piece (or both), which are suitable for PVCPE (knee) joints of 25 mm (inside) or 20 mm (outside) and for 8 mm PE hose.
The seed box coupling is suitable for application with the Woodpecker or Chameleon dripper, depending on the
required total flow rate in the row. Especially for mobile systems, the coupling is available in cultivation gutter
widths (multiples on a coil with coupling unit), with extra short micro tube (from 15 cm) or with Rapier or Prevo pin.

PVC pressure tube

Version 4.1

PVC pressure tube is suitable for transport of watery solutions under

pressure. PVC pressure tube is classified into pressure classes which
indicate the maximum working pressure. The permissible pressure in
operating conditions may be lower due to increased external loads, the
influence of chemicals or temperatures, but also due to water shock, for
example. The large number of pressure classes (up to 16 bar) allows for selection of a stronger tube as soon
as external factors affect the tube.
PVC is resistant to most water-soluble acids, salts and lyes and to substances naturally occurring in the soil.
PVC is not resistant to aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters, ethers, ketones and phenol. Synthetics
are temperature-sensitive. Both higher and lower temperatures affect the strength of synthetics such as PVC.
The characteristics listed here are based on standard situations at 20C. At higher temperatures, the
permissible working pressure will decrease (see table). At approximately 0C, PVC becomes brittle instead of
tough. Below +5C, careful transport, handling and assembly will be required (glueing is not recommended)
and below -5C, transport and handling should be avoided where possible.
PVC tubes may be either smooth or fitted with a glue nozzle or rubber gasket. PVC tubes may be mounted
underground or above ground. For underground application, the soil must be free from stones and from
subsidence. Use filling sand, if necessary, and make sure that the soil around the tube is equally compacted.
Higher pressure classes are recommended for applications in soft soil.

Technical specifications

45C (at decreasing pressure, cf. table)
0C (before use, at decreasing max. pressure)
55 N/mm2
3000 N/mm2

The total strength of the system is largely determined by the

connections of the PVC tubes and the manner in which they are
suspended or dug in. Non-observance of the instructions may
seriously impair the system. Assembly of PVC tubes requires
knowledge of both the manufacturers instructions and local
regulations.
Overhead application of PVC pressure tube with rubber gaskets is
not recommended or requires special brackets to fasten the pipe.
PVC will become brittle at temperatures around 0C and requires
extra care. PVC tubes and fittings must be emptied prior to frost in
order to avoid damage. Check the tubes prior to use and do not use tubes which show external deformations
or do not fit well. PVC-U tubes are not suitable for application in compressed air systems.
PVC-C is a post-chlorinated PVC which has a higher temperature resistance than PVC-U.
PVC-C can be properly glued together with special PVC-C glue.
There are collection points for used PVC. FKS in Leidschendam (+31 704440650) will be pleased to inform you.

PVC pressure tube with gasket joint

Version 4.1

PVC pressure tubes with gasket joints are used if glued joints are not
possible (low temperature, damp conditions) or undesirable (large
diameters).
As the gasket joints are flexible, elongation and longitudinal contraction can
be absorbed. Pressure tubes with a gasket joint are for underground use
only. Clean both the gasket and the tube end prior to assembly and smear the gasket with a lubricant. Avoid
direct pressure on the tube due to bumping. Use a piece of wood for protection. Tubes may not be mounted by
means of great mechanical force (of a crane or shovel). Make sure that the tube is adequately fastened in
bends, branches, pits and suchlike in order to avoid it becoming detached.
Pressure tubes with gasket joints may only be pressurised once the piping has been completely enclosed.

PVC rainwater pipe with glued joint

Version 4.1

Rainwater pipes with glued joints are used for (virtually) pressureless
applications if the joints must be resistant to tensile strain. The pipes come
with a moulded glue socket or smooth ends. The pipes are manufactured
using a coextrusion process, with new PVC inner and outer layers and a
recycled PVC (foam) intermediate layer. The pipes comply fully with the
applicable standards for solid pipes of the same class, but have the advantage that they are lighter in weight
which facilitates installation.
Rainwater pipes are available in 3 pressure classes: class 51 for use above ground and classes 34 and 41 for
underground use (for normal and light traffic loads, respectively). Rainwater pipes are particularly used for
rainwater discharge (above ground and underground). For greenhouse discharge, special fitted lengths are

Processing instructions for SABA PVC glues

Version 4.1

SABA Info sheet

Applicable to the following products: SABA S3

SABA 914
SABA 965 N
SABA 980
There are a few basic rules in order to make a proper glued joint:
1. Saw the tube at right angles, then bevel off and debur.
2. Mark the insertion depth of the tube.
3. Thoroughly clean the tube and coupling sleeve with SAVA PVC & ABS Cleaner. If required, remove
condensate with a piece of clean paper or a non-fluffing cloth.
4. Apply the glue evenly, both to the tube and the sleeve. Apply a thick layer of glue, lengthwise, to the pin/tube.
Apply a thin and light layer of glue around the sleeve in order to avoid a surplus of glue inside the tube.
5. Join immediately after glueing, without twisting or tilting, and hold tight for a few seconds. Remove
superfluous glue right away.
6. The glued tubes may not be moved during the first 5 minutes. At temperatures below 10C, this time
increases to 15 minutes.
7. Avoid heavy mechanical stress within 10-12 hours. Keep to the drying times given below before bringing the
construction under pressure.
8. Do not subject to pressure tests within 24 hours.

PVC glues are inflammable solvent based. Ensure adequate ventilation while working.
Product info and safety sheets are available on request.
Avoid an excess of glue or solvent on the tube or appendage. Excesses can be extremely harmful (also in the
long term).
The open time decreases significantly at temperatures above 23C (up to 2 min. at 30C and 1 min. at 40C).
After glueing, mechanical stress may not be applied to the joint in the first 5 minutes (15 minutes below 10C).
Do not subject to pressure tests within 24 hours.
Tangit 95C is recommended for glueing PVC-C.
Dytex, a special adhesive, is available for highly concentrated acids.
Below 5C, special measures must be taken for glueing (heat tube ends to 25-30C, retain this temp. for approx. 10 min. after glueing and then blow pipes through).
Ensure adequate safety measures while working. Safety sheets are available on request.
