Guidelines in Thesis Writing
A. Preparation
1. Prepare one copy of the proposal./manuscript to be carefully examined and duly
endorsed by the adviser for reading.
2. Reproduction of the proposal/manuscript will be done only after the approval of the
program coordinator
3.submit six copies for the manuscript
1 office copy
1 for advisee
1 for adviser
1 for program coordinator
1 each for the reading panel (2)
4. Copies of the proposal/manuscript and the notice of the evaluation meeting will be
personally distributed by the advisee, after which, the advisee submits the return slip to
the Program coordinators office.
5. The reading committee will be given at least one ( 1) week to prepare for an evaluation
meeting
Proposal Meeting/ defense
1. candidate presents and justifies the topic
2. Discussion on Chapters 1-3
3. Student is given three (3 ) weeks to submit final approved proposal incorporating
suggestions
4. As soon as the final approved proposal is accepted by the program coordinator,
the student may start gathering data.
B. Pre-Defense Evaluation
1. Clarification questions may be asked on chapters I - III. As much as possible no
major changes shall be made, since evaluation on these chapters were supposed to
have been done during the evaluation of the proposal.
2. The panel has to see to that all the specific problems are properly dealt with in
chapters IV-V.
3. Corrections and suggestions should be accurately and properly noted by the
advisee, adviser, and program coordinator, and included in the manuscript for the
oral defense.
4. If changes are minor and the paper is defensible, a schedule for the oral defense is
set. If major changes are to be made, the panel shall be given sufficient time to go
over the corrections. The panel has to decide whether another evaluation meeting
will be necessary or not. If not, then the date of the oral defense will be set.

C. Oral Defense
a. Questions should deal on Chapters IV and V. However, Chapter I -III may
be used as reference to clarify questions and answers on Chapters IV-V.
Analysis, implications, insights, interpretations should be geared towards
field of specialization
b. Comments and suggestions on the technical aspects of the manuscript,
such as format, typographical errors or grammar, should be written down
and given to the candidate.
c. Comments/corrections/ suggestions given during the oral defense should
be noted down by both the adviser and the program coordinator, which
will be summarized and given to the panel/reading committee for final
evaluation of the manuscript
d. Suggestions made during the Oral Defense are FINAL No additional
changes in the content nor incorporations should be required after the
defense.
Final Requirement
1. The panel members will be given one to two weeks upon receipts, to go over the
corrections of the final draft before the students prepares the final copies of the
manuscript.
2. The student will show one (1) copy of the final corrected draft of the content to
the program coordinator duly endorsed by the adviser and approved by the other
panel members.
3. The paper goes to t he institutional editor for editing. After completion of this the
paper is returned to the program coordinator for approval. Thereafter the signature
has been affixed the manuscript is reproduced
4. Include the name of the head of the graduate department in the approval sheet
5. An abstract of the Thesis (1-2 pages, single spaced) should be included in the final
copy. It includes:
Problem statement
Very brief discussion of population and locale
Summary of Findings (salient)
Conclusions
Recommendations
6. Submit five (5) bound final copies of the Thesis to the program coordinator

1 NLAC library
1 NPUC library
1 CHED library
1 Adviser
7. Submit one (1) CD copy of the Thesis to the program coordinators office.
8. Final Copies are due 45 days after the oral defense. If after 45 days, final copies

are not submitted, a letter of explanation will be required by the program


coordinator.

5. Chapter Numbering: Roman Numerals
