Introduction
This mini-book aims to summarise the key traits of the six
classic character types, or archetypes as Carl Jung called
them, that form the foundation of the Team Me approach to
self development.
Everyone has the potential to exhibit every one of these
Archetypes, though n reality we naturally express some more
than others.
Understanding these archetypes will help us gain a much
greater degree of self-awareness and help us identify and
address the issues that have been holding us back in life.
Its important too that we recognise not only the positive traits
of the mature archetypes, but also the characteristic shadow
sides that each can exhibit.
Every archetype displays very specific behaviours when it
overheats or freezes - that is, when it operates with either too
much energy, or not enough energy.
In the Overheated state, the character launches into excessive
expression. In their Frozen state the individual acts as if they
are incapable of accessing the traits of the archetype, justifying
their inaction with a multitude of reasons. Neither state is
helpful for either ourselves or those around us.

As we develop a greater awareness of these archetypes we can

also gain significant insights into the motivations of others in
our lives whether socially or professionally. We can often
anticipate the responses well get from others and also help us
create more effective teams.
So, if you want people to respond to you differently in life, use
these summaries to identify which of these archetypes you
would need to express more of and which you may need to
tone down a little - to gain the response you desire.

For to be free is not merely to cast off

one's chains, but to live in a way that
respects and enhances the freedom of
others.
Nelson Mandela.

Sovereign

Balanced & Mature

Takes responsibility. Commanding, secure, decisive, just, fair
and supportive. Establishes the vision, sets direction,
empowers others, creates order, sets healthy boundaries.
Seeks the prosperity of all.

Overheated: Tyrant
Self-important, superior attitude, controlling, must be right,
perfectionist, dictatorial, exalts own accomplishments, refuses
the counsel and advice of others.

Frozen: Slave
Avoids responsibility and decision-making, gives way to the
agendas of others, blames others, lacks own vision and

direction, a mere caretaker at best, paranoid, desperate for

praise and respect.

Warrior

Balanced & Mature

Courageous, action-orientated, confident, competitive,
enforces boundaries, finishes the job, direct, determined,
disciplined, loyal, dependable. Faces and pushes through
pain.
Overheated: The Savage
Hostile, compulsive, volatile, impatient, abusive, defiant,
inflexible, cant stand losing. Hates to see weakness in others,
creates strife, loves to fight and cause pain. Makes mountains
from mole-hills. Obsessive doer.
Frozen: The Victim
Gives way under pressure, avoids pain, avoids any kind of
conflict, Anything for a quiet life. Sloppy and ineffective with
work, cant say no, cant finish tasks. Always procrastinating,
finding reasons not to take action... or even make a decision.

Sage

Balanced & Mature

Wise, learned, discerning, knowledgeable, perceptive, sapient,
hungry for truth. Rational, logical and reasonable, though less
comfortable expressing emotions. Very aware of history.
Overheated: The Hermit
Aloof, over-intellectual, entangled in impractical theory,
unable to connect with real people (especially emotional
ones), obsessively logical, condescending (especially towards
less educated)
Frozen: The Dummy
Immobilised through a lack of adequate knowledge or
understanding (we dont know, we cant know), incapable of
making decisions, pessimistic: everything is meaningless.

Mystic

Balanced & Mature

Mastery of uncommon knowledge. Capable of bringing
transformation, has faith, brings hope, remains calm and
unshaken by events. Creative and charismatic, delighting in
mystery, and seems to draw upon unearthly powers of
intuition and prescience.
Overheated: The Sorcerer
Devious, condescending and superior, secretive,
manipulative, vengeful, cunning, elusive and slippery, reverts
to sorcery, paranoid, Gnostic (spirit is everything).
Frozen: The Fantasist
Fearful, stressed. Hopeless (lacking a belief in anything good).
Easily influenced by others, doubts own abilities, lapses into
continual fantasies.

Lover

Mature and Balanced

Values people, loves to build relationships and connections,
empathetic, seeks harmony. Comfortable displaying emotion,
playful, spontaneous, appreciates beauty - drawn to the arts,
poetry and music.
Overheated: The Addict
Lustful, desperate, infatuated, relationally restless, addictive,
constantly seeking more.
Frozen: The Loner (or the Stoic)
Unfeeling, stoical, stuck in grief, avoids intimacy yet cant
stand being alone. Numb, bored, dull. Disconnected, lacks
empathy, neglects others in need.

Jester

Mature and Balanced

Brings humour, laughter, joy, colour and entertainment.
Makes light of things, finds the funny side, liberates from
negativity and over-seriousness.
Overheated: The Idiot
Spiteful, mean, uses humour to tear down, sarcastic and
sardonic. Easily diverted and distracted, flippant, cant take
anything seriously, often interrupting important matters.
Frozen: The Depressive
Wallows in negativity, stuck in grief, feels shallow and
insecure, lacks meaning, theres nothing in life to enjoy.
