Adobe Photoshop
Objectives
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Learn how to wrap text around an image.
Use paragraph styles in Adobe InDesign.
Process
First, I created the logo using Adobe Illustrator. I chose
two fonts that would go well with the concept of space
and astronomy and I drew the moon using the pen
tool. I added two other circles with transparency to
create the glow around the moon. I then set up my
layout using Adobe InDesign, splitting it in three
sections. Using the quick selection tool in Adobe
Photoshop, I removed the background of the image of
the girl dressed up as an astronaut. I placed the image
between two boxes of text and used the text wrap
tool in InDesign to wrap the text around the
alpha channel image.

Objectives
Create a variety of logos to fit a company image.
Learn basic Adobe Illustrator tools.
Process
First, I used the pen tool to draw the outlines of a
peony. I then placed that drawing inside a circle and
titled it. I drew leaves at the bottom and changed the
stroke to make it look a little messy, since nothing is
perfect in nature. I then chose two contrating fonts for
the text in my logo. Finallly, I changed the colors using
a complementary color sheme.

Objectives
Create a new logo to fit a personal image.
Create a consistent layout and design for stationery.
Learn basic Adobe Illustrator and InDesing tools.
Process
I first created a new logo using a complementary
colors scheme that I taught best represented my
personal brand. I used two contrasting fonts. One
of them was vintage-looking typewritter font, so I
changed the stroke on my icon to match the same
style. I place my logo on one side of the card. On the
other side I put the icon on a corner and the text o
another, and placed my personal information.

Learn basic Adobe Illustrator and InDesing tools.
Process
To create my letterhead I place my new logo on the
top right corner of the page, extending the golden
stripe. On the bottom I placed a gray box and
wrote my personal information, separated by circles
matching the color of my icon. I used that same icon as
a watermark.

Objectives
Learn basic photography skills.
Learn photography editing using Adobe Photoshop.
Process
The first thing I did was coming up with a color
scheme. As I was walking back home I decided to use
the Analogous color scheme and chose Gold, Orange,
and Brick to match the colors of the leaves. I then took
a photo using a Cannon 60D with the principles we
learns from the activity. Using Photoshop I edited the
levels, sharpness, and saturation of my image. Then on
an 8.511 layout I included my photo, text, and design
elements. I used color balance to try and match the
colors of the leaves to the ones from the color wheel. I
then used the Selective Color tool to reduce the green
from the grass since it was too contrasting with the
colors I wanted to use and the warm feeling I wanted
to transmit with my design.

Objectives
Learn how to size and optimize an original logo
as a .png for a web page.
Learn basic HTML and CSS skills.
Identify hex colors.
Learn how to compress multiple files in a folder.
Process
I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I
created it using the coding from the demo and the
other activities. After marking up all my content and inserting my image, I attached the pre-made CSS demo
document to my HTML. I then changed the colors to
match the colors of my logo. I found the colors by
opening my logo on Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I also changed my body to Edmondsans
and declared other sans serif backup fonts. I also
changed the padding around the header, image, and
text to have good spacing between each other.

Objectives
Learn how to scan and import a high quality image.
Create and print a full-bleed desing.
Learn basic Microsoft Word tools.
Process
First, I scanned the image from one of my cooking
books and cropped it so it would fit the 8.5 x 11 format of the Word Document. I placed the title on top
using an all caps font to catch the readers attention. I
added four different colored boxes of the same length
to create repetition an alignment and set their transparency to 50%. I left enough space between two of
the boxes so the image could be seen. I placed text
on 3 of the boxes and aligned it to the title. I then
added four squares next to the title with the same
color scheme to tie the whole design together. For
this design I used Microsoft Word, the scanner of an
HP Deskjet 1510 Inkjet Printer, and the PDF converter

Objectives
Learn basic Adobe Photoshop skills.
Learn to use layers and masks.
Learn how to blend images and adding filters.
Process
First, I cropped the background image to 8.511. I
changed the levels and made the image black and
white to make it look as if it was at night. I sharpened
the image of the Universe and added a mask. With
black paint and a 90% opacity, soft-edged brush, I
painted away the hard image edges. With a larger
black brush at 25% opacity and 30% flow, I blended
the image of the Universe into the sky of the other
photo. I then added a black box for the text since it
wasnt legible with all the stars in the background. I
added the quote with one font and wrote the word
everything in bold and italics to give it emphasis and
contrast. Finally, I added the name in a different font
and a drop shadow to make it more legible.

Objectives
Create an effective layout.
Apply the desing principles and elements.
Use appropriate typography.
Learn basic InDesing skills
Process
First, I created 4 sketches of my flier layout. I then
chose the sketch that I thought had the most potential
and used it as a guide to create the layout in Adobe
InDesign. I decided to emphasize the word Leadership
in my title because I think the purpose of the conference is to learn to become a leader. I used stripes in
gradient from black to white as my repetitive element.
After the title the focal point moves to the image and
the Date, Place, and Time, along with the question Do
you want to have the competitive edge in business.
I used the image, logo, and text I was given for this
project.
