MONTAGE
Description:
A montage made with three different images to inspire
and provoke serenity.

Date:
October 23, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:
My message is serenity and quieting the mind.

Process:
I actually first started this project by thinking of the
message I wanted to portray. I decided on a peaceful,
serene message. I then decided what images I wanted
to use. I used an original image from a national park
I went to in China, and the others I found online. I
wanted a man or woman praying or doing something
peaceful. I then wanted some texture, so I used some
Chinese writing and placed it atop the entire design.
Lastly, I needed to choose my actual quote. I decided
on the one I did, because it is simple and fit the design
well. I went through different typefaces and colors until
I found this one.

BROCHURE
Description:
This showcases how I designed a tri-fold brochure for
ILP, International Language Programs.

Date:
December 6, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:
This brochure showcases what it could be like to travel
China while living there and the kinds of people you
can meet.

Process:
I started the process first by researching. I then started
sketching what I imagined. I know I wanted a simple
design with a square format. I chose 88 original but
had to change it to 55 due to printing issues. I first
started with the layout on InDesign. From there, I
input all the images I wanted, because I felt like they
were the main focus. Then I added text boxes and
chose my fonts and color. For the logo, I designed
in on Illustrator and linked it to my InDesign file. I
used the pen tool and type tool in order to create it.
Through some finer adjustments and critiques I was
able to design the entire the brochure. I took it to
Alphagraphics to be printed, and then folded it using a
ruler.

Dive into the culture

Meet locals and dive deep into
the culture. Exploring places
without tourists is the best
way to meet the native people of
China. One is able to see, breathe,
and completely immerse themselves
in the culture. It is a way to really
connect.
Take their picture, let
them take yours. Make
memories and really
connect. Through ILP,
volunteers have many
opportunies to meet
great people from all
over China.

EVENT AD
Description:
This ad is promoting a polar plunge to help save the
Arctic.

Date:
October 8, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word

Objectives:
To promote awareness of the melting Arctic and
habitats that are being destroyed. This ad is promoting
a polar plunge.

Process:
When first starting this project, I looked through
magazine after magazine and came upon this image.
Once I finalized what image I was using, I began
sketching and researching. I researched on what is
happening in the Arctic, and why it would be a good
issue to make an ad on. Following research I did some
basic sketches with pen and paper. After that, I started
designing on Microsoft word. I used the text and
shape tools to help with my alignment. I also adjusted
the image to fit the whole page. I added color to the
text and used the dropper tool to get a color from the
existing photo.

The Arctic is taking a plunge; you should too.

LETTERHEAD
Description:
This is a letterhead design for Tetonia Outdoor Gear.

Date:
November 8, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:
The message is for an outdoor gear company, it is
to bring feelings of adventure and really just the
movement towards adventure and fun.

Process:
I first started this process by researching different
letterheads. I then began sketching once I decided
what kind of brand I wanted to do. This is not a real
company, but rather something I thought would be
interesting to do. I began sketching different ways
to organize the logo, different shapes, and different
typefaces. From there I went straight into Illustrator.
There I worked around different typefaces until I
found this one and thought it fit the brand perfectly.
I then played around a mountain shape or shoe shape
for the logo. I decided on the simple shoe design. I
repeated the shoe in the background of the logo on
this letterhead. I added some information about the
company using a simple, clean typeface to contrast
the bold typeface of the logo. Once all of that was
complete, I moved it on over to InDesign and finished
up minor details such as positioning on the main page.

BUSINESS CARD

Program(s)/Tools:

Adobe InDesign

Objectives:
The message is for an outdoor gear company, it is
to bring feelings of adventure and really just the
movement towards adventure and fun.

Process:
I started the process of designing the business card
by researching different brand identities. Once the
logo was designed, I repeated the shoe shape in the
background on one side of the business card. From
there I used the same font and put in the companys
information. On the other side, I let the logo kind of
bleed off the card, just to add more depth. From there,
I put the card on InDesign for some final alignment
adjustments.

LOGOS
Description:
A logo designed for Living Libations, an organic/natural skincare company.

Date:
October 31, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:
The objective is to give an organic natural feel for the
skincare line.

Process:
I first designed three separate logos for this same
company. I was trying to achieve a settle feel, a
somewhat organic feel. Once one logo was voted on, I
sketched some more ideas to change the flower aspect
of the logo. I wanted it have a free flowing movement
to it, so I created the flower with the pen tool in Adobe
Illustrator and then added some more dimension by
adding the smaller petals. The word Living I created
by adding some kerning between the letters. I then
added the word skincare, to further get the idea across. I
then decided to keep my original color scheme because
it was not too feminine and were very natural and
neutral colors. From there I made a greyscale logo and
then a white on color logo.

WEBPAGE
Description:
This website showcases the design and process of the
logo for Tetonia Outdoor Gear.

Date:
November 21, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Text Wrangler

Objectives:
This website is designed to showcase the logo Ive
created. The logo itself is supposed to help those feel
adventurous and spontaneous.

Process:
In order to create this website, I first did some
sketching of what I wanted. Because the basis of this
website is pretty simple, the layout could be simple. I
wanted the colors to enhance the logo and not detract
from it. I used Text Wrangler to edit HTML and CSS
documents in order to create the website. I learned
some from Youtube and just simply googling. In this
project, I learned to do a lot on my own and not rely on
others. It was really just a test and try kind of project.

POSTER
Description:
This is a poster designed for an Arcade Fire show in
Japan.

Date:
December 12, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:
This poster shows the old style of Arcade fire and
brings in the feeling of music that would be settle yet
bold.

Process:
I started this process first in Photoshop. I envisioned
texture for this poster design. I found an image that
seemed like Arcade Fire with the bold movement and
colors. From there I played with different brushes and
added some color on a different layer. I changed the
opacity so the colors would not overpower the image.
From there, I brought my file into InDesign. I added
some bold font and then turned down the opacity as
it repeated downward. Then I added the main header,
Arcade Fire. With that, I then added some basic info
for the show with the same font.

PHOTODESIGN
Description:
Through this project I was able to focus on photography principles. It was a free thinking project, where I
decided on an ad for Bareminerals.

Date:
October 18, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:
The objective is to show a holiday skincare and cosmetics ad for Bareminerals, offering their holiday promotion.

Process:
I started this project by taking several photos for the
activity earlier in the week. I ended up choosing one of
those photos for the project. I took the photo literally
outside of my apartment, of my friend Grace. She sat
down or squatted near the ground where the pine trees
surrounded her. It was later afternoon, but we were in
the shaded areas so the light was perfect. Once I started
figuring out the direction I was headed, I sketched some
designs. From there, I then finally decided I wanted to
do a cosmetics and skincare ad. Because of the pine
trees, I decided to do a holiday theme. From there, I
added the type and ornament design. I used Photoshop
during the entire digital process.

FLIER
Description:
This is the flier I designed for the Graduate Leadership
Conference.

Date:
October 2, 2015

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 1
Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:
My flier is trying to portray a professional theme but
modern as its for college age students.

Process:
I first started off with sketching. I used pencil and
paper to apply my design knowledge by hand. After
a few sketches, I then picked my two favorites and
sketched them up some more. From there, I picked the
best one to start digitizing on InDesign. The first design
I created was similar to my final, but the alignment
was off and the typeface was not the best. After some
several critiques, I adjusted the alignment and added
more contrast by changing the logo used. From there I
made some final adjustments in the leading of the body.
