Course Title: Liability Insurance and Reinsurance for Commercial, Industrial and

International Clients

Course Description:
The ever changing legal environment and the increasing complexity of business
processes of your clients require a constant training for people responsible for the
evaluation of liability exposures and deciding on terms and conditions of liability
policies for such clients. In addition to this, employees of insurance companies,
underwriting agencies, re-insurers and brokers also face tougher requirements from
governmental authorities, auditing companies, financial institutions or re-insurers and
this will continue for the foreseeable future. This course is the first part of a series of
courses designed for people in the insurance industry, including risk managers, actuaries
and government officials who have to comment or decide on liability exposures and
insurance issues within their organisations.

Sources of civil liability
Negligence and other torts such as contractual liability and strict liability
Functions of liability insurances (defence, evaluation of level of liability
and paying justified claims)
Description of covers for General Liability, Products Liability, Recall, EIL
and potentially EL and Cyber Liability, differentiation to D+O and
Professional Liability
Different wordings (policy triggers), insuring clause
Underwriting process (which information is required and why, how and
why underwriters apply different wordings, deductibles and arrive at
premiums)
Risk evaluation and the use of Risk Consultants
Claims (examples and process of claims handling)
Practical underwriting examples in small groups of participants
Role of market participants such as clients (Risk Manager, Insurance
buyers), Brokers, Underwriters and Reinsurers
Reinsurance (premium and claims flow)
How international programs for liability can be structured, and how liability
differs from property
