SLIDESHOW PRESENTATION

SOFTWARE

What is it for?
Used in making presentations by the use of
slides that can be shown in sequence.

Gives a presentation a visual element to help

gain and keep audience attention.

What is it for?
It is NOT used to present your notes and
reading materials to the audience.

If you do this, why should anyone listen to you?

They might as well read your slides, and you can
shut up and sit down.

In this Quarter...

You will learn how to make simple yet

effective slideshow presentations using
Microsoft PowerPoint
You will learn how to deliver your
presentations so that your audience will
listen and not fall asleep.

Slide Layout 101

1.) DO NOT use pictures as a background.

They make people want to look at the picture,

not read your text.
They take away space for you to place your
text.
They make your text difficult to read.

Slide Layout 101

2.) DO NOT use more than two fonts.

Number of fonts > 2 = not awesome.

1 serif font + 1 sans serif font = awesome.

One font for the slide title, one font for the
main text.
Use font effects sparingly.

3.) Make your text BIG.

Your smallest font = the age of the oldest

person in the room.
BIG font sizes are easier to read.

This font size is 32pt.

This is font size 20pt.

This is font size 12pt.

4.) Follow the 5x3 Rule as much as you can.

5x3 means: 5 words per line, 3 lines per slide.

Use keywords in your slide.

NOT sentences.

5.) Be careful with pictures.

All pictures must be clear and contribute to

the presentation.
Do not use pictures just for the sake of using
pictures.

Using PowerPoint

This is called Normal View.

Text in Slides

PowerPoint uses text boxes to place text in a

Use the automatically-placed text boxes as
much as possible. If you have to add more,
click the Insert tab and select Text Box.

Shrink or stretch your text box to your desired

size and position it where you want it.
