How to start [Configure] BSNL Broadband connection on Ubuntu


Step 1:
Go to your Network control panel.
Follow steps : Taskbar >> System >> Administration >> Network.
Step 2:
Then click on the Unlock button and then it will ask for Administrative password, Enter your
Password. and click Authenticate so that it will unlock the locked features.
Step 3:
Click on Wired connection and then its properties, it will show you Connection setting tab
select Automatic configuration (DHCP) from the list and click OK.
Step 4:
Select Point to Point connection, and go to its properties. It will pop up the pppo properties.
Check the Enable this connection, and select PPPoE connection type and Enter the
account data (Username and Password)in specified boxes,
Step 5:
Go to Modem tab from same Window, select the Ethernet interface (Generally the eth0)
Go to option tab select all check boxes. and then OK. and close.
Now everytime you want to connect to net, just click on LAN Icon on taskbar and go to Dial
Up connections and click on Connect to pppOe via modem and get connectiviy.
So now just start your Firefox and start browsing the internet from your Ubuntu.
Note: This guide is for LAN connection only, and not for the USB connections as many
modem manufacturer doesnt provide drivers for Linux versions.

i know easiest way setting up bsnl broadband connection in Ubuntu any version of Ubuntu
the process is same
1.First open terminal in Ubuntu
2. type this sudo pppoeconf and press enter
3. then a setup wizard opens inside terminal it will scan show u that it found pppoe device,
select yes with arrows on ur key board and prees enter
4.then it wilk ask u to wther to modify the configuration file select yes
5.then it wiil give some thing regarding some popular options select yes
6. now it ask u to enter username, enter your username that ur bsnl broadband gave u
7. now enter ur broadband password
8. then it will ask u some thing about DNS select yes
9.then it will show regarding MSS select yes
10. now done window shows up select yes
11. it will show u commands that u should use for connecting and disconnecting internet

12. connection installed window shows up select ok


thats it ur ready to use ur internet, when u want to connect to internet open ur terminal
type (sudo pon dsl-provider), when u want to disconnect type (sudo poff), one more thing
some times when start computer it automatically connects to internet and some time it
won't so when it doesn't connect automaticlly open ur terminal first type sudo poff, it will
ask u for password type ur password, and close ur terminal and open it again type sudo pon
dsl-provider, it will connect .

1> Switch off your modem


2>Open the Network settings Dialog box ( System> Administration> Network)
3>Select Wired Connection and click on the Properties.
4> In the Connection Settings Menu select Static IP type in the following
values and save:
IP Address : 192.168.1.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway address: 192.168.1.1

5>Switch on the Modem and wait for a few minutes for the values to get
recorded.
6>In the Terminal ( Applications>Accessories> Terminal) type sudo pppoeconf
6>A window pops with a blue screen notifying that an ethernet device has been
found. Just follow the on screen instructions till you reach the screen which asks
you for your BSNL UID and PASS. Ping in the values (after deleting the text
Username from the line) and youre done!!
