Lent is Coming!
a confession to make. The outdoor Christmas
Olightk, Ijusthavecame
off the parsonage trees and bushes this week.
Luckily, they blended with the dark, frozen branches, so you
could only see them twinkling when the natural light of the sun
hit them just right. But it was time. I know I didnt want to
have to pull them off as the budding prematurely started with
this crazy weather were having. And I knew I wanted to get
the Christmas lights down before Lent began.
Lent is the season of 40 days leading up to the Easter
celebration. Lent literally comes from an old English word,
Lenten, which means springtime. Its a time to do some
spring cleaning of our souls. Its a time when Christ births a
renewal into our frozen, winter-ed hearts. Its a season of
reflection, fasting, prayer and worship when we remember
Christs sacrifice for us on the cross, and the good news of his
resurrection on Easter.
I can promise you that there wont be any Lenten sales at
Macys. There wont be any Lenten parties at any of the
downtown establishments. Its our season. A distinctly
Christian season that imitates and reflects on the journey of
Jesus to the cross. While every other major world religion has
a similar season of inner reflection and penitence, this is our
holy season of connecting anew with Christ.
Well start Lent with our Ash Wednesday service on
Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Come to
begin this holy season with the reminder that we are but ashes,
redeemed and renewed through the sacrifice and forgiveness
of Jesus Christ. Childcare will be provided as well as our
regular Wednesday Night Live meal at 5 p.m.
This Lent, our sermon series will be, How Can I Forgive?
Forgiveness is the way Jesus cleanses us from our sins; and how

Lent. The theme for 2015 is Towards Water Justice: A Pilgrimage
