Move On Challenge Check-In

Jan. 25 Move On Challenge: Find time this week to list the idols and false gods
that take the place of your yearning for God.What habit could be exchanged
for meaningful time and attention to Gods intentions for your abundant life?

The Pastors Corner

Teressa Gilbreth, Director of Communications
Promoting Your Ministries, Events & Programs
ou may be familiar with the Messenger and the Sunday
Ybulletin,
but do you know about the many other methods of
communication we use at MUMC? Do you know the difference
in the kind of news we publish in each? I work with all types
of communications at the church. Id like to highlight the ones
I think you will find most useful for promoting your ministries,
events and programs.
We have three regular weekly communications tools:
MESSENGER
The weekly Messenger mails to 180 homes and emails to
1,700 subscribers who have said they want to know all there
is to know about MUMC. The kinds of things we publish in the
messenger are MUMC ministry events, events supported by
MUMC, church family news, anything that might interest the
general audiencekind of like all of our family business. Be
sure to read it weekly to stay in the know!
SUNDAY BULLETIN
The weekly Sunday worship bulletin is in the hands of those
who attend each Sunday. In the bulletin we publish things
happening at the church that morning or that day--such as
fundraisers in the Connector, volunteer opportunities for
MUMC ministries, and some calendar items for that week.
Space is very limited. The back of the bulletin highlights the
main events in color to put our best foot forward for the
visitors and members.
Another way the bulletins are distributed is hand-delivery
through flower ministry volunteers.

and I recently received a request and have
Option
Website
started to post the PDF of the bulletin on
our website. We are working on getting the Website Slideshow
analytics attached to our new web site so
we will be able to tell how many are clicking Social Media
on these postsand therefore how many
Messenger-email
people are finding it useful.
PRE-WORSHIP SLIDES
Pre-worship slides, which are viewed by
those who come to church early and are
another great way to highlight a message.
If youve got some news that is especially
visual, give me your idea! For any of these
news tools, submitting a photo or a photo
suggestion is helpful for me.
NEWS DEADLINES
News deadlines are 10 a.m. Monday for the
mid-week Messenger, 10 a.m. Wednesday for
the Sunday bulletin and pre-worship slides.

2 MISSOURI UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

We also use many ongoing tools at MUMC that you can

request at any time.
WEBSITE
Our website includes the stories from the Messenger, and we
have the ability to highlight which stories appear on the home
page. Often there are links and attachments and additional
information that are not anywhere else because we have more
content flexibility online.
CCB
With CCB we can send targeted emails, which are an easy
way for group leaders to track and communicate with their
members or to make sure every person gets a notification of
some important news.
SOCIAL MEDIA
With social media,YOU are the author. Nothing boosts a post
like having your name associated with it, because it bumps your
post to show in the news feeds of all your friends, and if they
click, their friends. Going viral is a good thing! The most read
posts include pictures, particularly of kids and cats. No really, I
learned this in a social media seminar.
There is lots of information included on the table below.
Feel free to contact me with any questions...and especially to
send me your news. You can reach me at teressa@moumc.
org, messenger@moumc.org, bulletin@moumc.org or
communications@moumc.org.
