School trustees have a very important role in making sure
every child achieves their potential at school. This
opportunity only comes up every three years and is a
wonderful way for you to make a real difference to our
children, school, community and at the same time enriches
your own personal development.
Payments to the school
From the beginning of Term 2 the process to pay for the
school donation, sports fees, class trips/camps etc. will
change. Rather than paying the class teacher, all cash and
cheque payments should be put in a drop-box that will be
set-up in the foyer of the main office.
Eftpos payments can still be made at the office counter,
although please note that the credit card facility is not

started asking questions. “Why do you think we put plants in tyres?” she said. Nearly all of room 6 put their hand up.
After she asked all the questions, she took us to look at a field of pumpkins, peas and other things. Siobhan’s group
started counting all of the pumpkins. As room 6 were walking past the peas, there was a sign saying “Please do not
pick”. When room 6 began to sit down, she started talking again about plants planted next to special plants to keep the
bugs away. Then room 6 went on another walk to a plant that attracts stink bugs. Isobel got a stink bug on her arm.
After everyone finished looking at them, all of room 6 said to the lady, “Thank you”. Then all of room 6 got into their
groups and the parents drove them back to school. (Mia, Year 4 R6)

Timor L’este Childrens’ Clothes
Thank you very much for the generous donations of childrens clothing. Today the Army picked up boxes that add up to
two cubic metres of clothing destined for the orphans of Timor L’este. I will try and get a photo of some of the
distribution and send it through for inclusion in the news letter.
Warmest regards

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) –
formerly Australian Schools Competitions
This year we are again making it possible for children to take part in the ICAS Competitions organized by the
Educational testing Centre at the University of New South Wales. The ICAS competitions are a suite of assessments
developed for primary and secondary students to provide diagnostic information about student abilities in core skills
areas of the curriculum.
Critical thinking, reasoning and problem solving are higher order skills essential for success in school as well as in the
wider community. The material presented in the ICAS Competitions reflects this importance, providing the opportunity
for students to perform a range of tasks using these and other skills. The Competitions cater for a wide range of student
abilities using contexts that stimulate students' interest and engage their attention.
The Competitions assess skills relevant to curriculum outcomes at appropriate levels. Reports provide valuable
diagnostic information that can be used to assess student strengths and weaknesses and to supplement school reports.
Please note: The school will pay for Year 6 students to sit the Science, Mathematics and Computer Skills tests.
Please note the timetable below and ensure entries are handed into the office by the due dates. Please use a form
available from the school office to ensure we don’t lose your entry of money!
