AIMS
The aim of this module is to provide students with a sound knowledge of the rules of technical/engineering drawing. It is expected that this will motivate them in using CAD software, e.g. AutoCAD 2014, as a tool for producing engineering drawings to the required standards. Appropriate
exercises will be proposed during practice hours.
The objectives are to:
introduce the basic concepts of engineering drawing in the design and manufacturing field;
present the basic knowledge and develop the students skills in engineering drawing using manual drawing tools and CAD software;
apprise students about the standards for engineering drawing;
promote the use of drawing techniques to represent objects graphically, machine parts individually and in assembly;
familiarize students with dimensioning, use of scales and other methods that allow describing
objects for the purpose of manufacturing;
develop students ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Students can also build an
understanding of 2D and 3D computer aided drafting with the requirements of good engineering
drawing practice and be able to apply them to their work.
