The stupid things that matter

By Andrew

Sometimes, its the weather that determines whether my day will be exciting or not. Cloudy skies on
a beach day just absolutely annoy me! Why wont the sun come out when Im going to swim? Then
the day I have to walk for 20 minutes, it starts shinning as if it is getting ready for the Olympics.
But the weather is not under my control, so meh. Let it do what it likes; except for hurricanes.
NO HURRICANES!!!
There are some things, however, that are in your control. Some little things that you dont really pay
much attention to. There are two sides to this coin: firstly, God.

God is in the habit of taking nothings and turning them into EVERYTHINGS. He likes taking the things
we call foolish or worthless those things weve termed useless, corrupted or unfit and using them
for His Glory (1 Corinthians 1:27). There are many instances in the Bible.
Jacob was a liar (Genesis 27:19), yet God made him Israel. Moses was a stutterer (Exodus 4:10), yet
he was made leader of Israel. Gideon, the coward, became the courageous deliverer! (Judges 6-8).
David was a murder and an adulterer; yes, the famous David ooo! (2 Samuel 11). Doubting Thomas
later became the reason for the spread of Christian in a large part of India. The most interesting of
them all is when God made Balaams DONKEY speak. A DONKEY!!!! (Numbers 22:21-35).

In all these instances, God made decisions that we would never have anticipated. Even though God is
capable of creating out of nothing just like he did the universe he prefers to work miracles using
nature. In other words, rather than perform a miracle from scratch, God would take from nature
what he wants to use for His Glory; giving mankind a part to play sort of.
Let me explain.
God used Moses staff to work great miracles. Did God need the staff? No! Jesus turned water into
wine. Couldnt He just make wine appear in the peoples cups? Of course he could! Why did Balaams
donkey have to speak? Surely, the message could have come from some other more reasonable
means. Is it necessary that God uses water to baptize people? Cant the words just be proclaimed and
the person baptized? Or, did Jesus need bread and wine to give us His body and blood?
God loves to take FROM us to use FOR us.
He doesnt need what we have: staff, water, bread and wine CERTAINLY NOT THE DONKEY (Hehe. I
dont know why Im picking on this poor donkey today), but Hed use them for our good. It gives us a
sense of responsibility; more so, when what hes taking is our character, skill, or personality.

Indeed, the second part of the coin, God loves to use not just what you have, but who you are for His
Glory. He can turn any situation around, but He prefers to work with the natural YOU. And when He

does, He picks the little things you would normally take for granted and magnifies them, using them
for good.

David was a shepherd. The nature of his work required that he stayed out in the fields protecting his
sheep from all sorts of wild animals. He was out in the open with nothing to eat or drink, save what
he carried with him. He developed a brave heart and a set of skills that enabled him to survive while
defending his flock. Who would have known that his silly slingshot was what God would use to defeat
Goliath?
Saul, later known as Saul, was a man who had great zeal for God. In his opinion, how could a mere
mortal, Jesus, claim to be the Son of the Omnipotent Yahweh, Creator and Ruler of a universe so
immeasurably vast?! BLASPHEMY!!! He was running after the right God but in the wrong direction.
When everybody saw a killer, God saw a man with unparalleled vehemence! After his conversion on
the road to Damascus, God changed only one thing: Sauls knowledge of Jesus. Everything else, the
passion, zeal all that Saul had, was retained in Paul.
I could give more examples, but then this would be a book and not a blog post. :D

The point is, no matter what you do saying good morning, reading your books, throwing out the
trash, cleaning your room, smiling, helping a friend, cooking, writing an essay (or a blog, hehe) do it
with such interest and passion as if God is going to use that thing to work a miracle through you.
(Colossians 3:23-24, Ephesians 6:7-8)
