December 2015
Dear Friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful December day! One of my favorite things
about this time of year is that most people think of that day when our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ was born into the world. The scene, the characters involved and
the things the angel told Mary, His mother, all bring fulfillment to Scriptures.
One such Scripture is found in Isaiah 9:6, which says, "For unto us a child is
born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder:
and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The
Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Too many only want to remember Him
as a child that was born. We see the image of an infant laying in a manger without
thinking that infant grew up to be the man who died for our sins. He was the man of
all men, pure in words, actions, and motives. He was sinless and innocent of every
charge against Him. Yet He suffered for each of us, "that He by the grace of God
should taste death for every man (Hebrews 2:9). The last greatest enemy to man is
death, and the Lord Jesus defeated it by rising from the dead! From the cradle to the
grave to heaven itself, Jesus Christ proved just how much God loves you and me!
Yes, He was the Son that was given for us. He took the penalty for our sins.
The government, or empire, or kingdom, shall be upon His shoulder. He bears
the responsibility of it. He carries the glory and honor of it because without Him all
would be lost. He carries the burden of His kingdom, not just our burdens. He is
responsible for it's outcome. He said He would build His church, and the gates of
hell shall not prevail against it. If you are a part of His kingdom then even hell
cannot prevail against you either!
We can cast our burdens and cares upon Him for He cares for us. This is why
His name is called Wonderful. He makes all things new (Revelation 21:5). When He
works in your life He works wonders. He goes deeper than emotions and feelings:
He touches your spirit and lifts your heart. He fulfills and satisfies the empty places.
His name is also called "Counsellor." His Word, the Bible, gives us guidance and
purpose, or vision. Though He creates wonders, His Word counsels us to restore and
help us overcome those areas so we don't keep falling into needs. That is what truly
is amazing about our Savior!
