To begin this chapter Billy is apprehended by the tralfamadorians and one of them

explains what a book is to their species. There isnt any particular relationship between
the messages, except that the author has chosen them carefully, so that, when seen all
at once, they produce an image of life that is beautiful and surprising and deep. There is
no beginning, no middle, no end, no suspense, no moral, no causes, no effects. What
we love in our books are the depths of many marvelous moments seen all at one time.
That is interesting because I make an instant connection between the tralfamadorian
books and Vonnegut the authors book. There is nothing about the books that can deem
them politically correct or incorrect. There are just experiences, there are just moments
seen, there is just life or whatever the tralfamadorians call it. This thought this theory
immediately connected my thinking to the video we watched about the theories of life,
free will and determinism. If there is no wrong or right then that eliminates variables to
determine our decisions, which allows us, true free will. I think that I am beginning to
understand the satirical message to this book. No matter how much us humans as a
species denies it, we all have boundaries, we all have implemented morals, we all have
applied rules, and we all follow a system. There is a certain set of rules and we have the
ability to break them, we have the ability to be different but will we be? The mandatory
systems of schooling and working a 9 to 5 job are now essentially skills that we as a
species feel we have to complete for survival but are they? Americans, like human
beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue, the monograph went
on. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money.
They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those
who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has
been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly
and privately, than any other ruling class since, say, Napoleonic times. When I read this
quote in the book I had to read it numerous times and analyze it because I really wanted
to understand what I was reading. The first time I read it I found it thought provoking how
Americans were being juxtaposed with other human beings like American is a different
kind of people. The second time I read it a realized that it said people who are poor
blame and blame themselves. Coming from my perspective I dont think that people
should blame themselves or be labeled self-blamers but a product of the system. Some
people who are born poor can never experience anything other then poverty so how will
they ever reach success? How will they even know if they havent achieved success?
An American near Billy wailed that he had excreted everything but his brains. Moments
later he said, 'There they go, there they go.' He meant his brains.
That was I. That was me. That was the author of this book.(125) I think this quote
directly tells us that Billy is Vonnegut.
