WRITING PORTFOLIO TASK 2

WRITING FORM 2 (DRAFT)
NAME: MUHAMMAD AQMIR BIN MUHAMAD SHUKOR

GROUP: 23

MATRIC No.: 178269

Topic:
Causes of Slope Failure
Thesis Statement:
There are several factors that can cause a slope to fail. One of it is water and second
is lack of plant of slope.
Body Paragraph 1:
Topic Sentence:
Water is one of the several factors that can cause a slope to fail. It can cause
slope to fail by making the slope heavier and reduce the bond between soil particle
in slope.
Supporting Sentences 1:
First, water can cause slope to become heavier. When raining, rain water will
drop at slope directly if nothing to cover it. This water will absorb by the slope and
increase the weight of the slope. Thus, making it heavier and more easier to fail.

Supporting Sentences 2:
Second is rain water reduce the bond strength between soil particle in slope.
The bond is very important so that slope will not easily slide. When more water are
absorbed by slope, the bond between soil particle become weak and cause slope to
slide and fail.

Body Paragraph 2:

BBI2424 ACADEMIC WRITING/SEM1/2015-16/WP/TASK2

Topic Sentence:
Another factor that can cause slope to fail is lack of plants on slope. Plant act as
natural cover for the slope. Without it, slope are exposed to natural element that can
cause it to fail. Lack of plant also cause the slope to become loose since plant help
hold the soil particle in slope.
Supporting Sentence 1:
Firstly, plant on slope will protect the slope from harsh environment force
especially rain. Lack of plant cause rain water to drop directly onto the slope. This
will increase the chance of absorption of water by slope. Thus cause it to fail.

Supporting Sentence 2:
Next, soil become loose when there are no plants on slope. Plant root help
hold the slope together. Lack of it cause the soil become loose and easily slide when
there are external or natural element force act on it.
