HVP connectors

SPP connectors

HVP connectors are two-part connectors made of anodised

aluminium (for the optimum gliding quality without the need
for lubricants). They are equally suitable for wood-to-wood,
wood-to-concrete and wood-to-steel connections.

SPP post-purlin connectors the ideal solution for tensile connections or wood connections with combined load types, such
as post-purlin connections.

3. Formulas
In the following formulas are given to calculate the load-carrying
capacities, such as they are also to find in the European Technical
Approval ETA-11/0295. So the load-carrying capacity of the connection can be calculated depending on the load-carrying capacity of
the chosen wood-based material, such as the connection geometry
(inclined joist).
Pitzl HVP connectors are designed for use in service classes 1 and 2.
The load-carrying capacities are given for loads in the direction of
insertion (F2),against the direction of insertion (F3) and perpendicular to the direction of insertion (F4) as well as perpendicular to the
connector plane (F1).

The force in the direction of insertion (F2),the force against the direction of insertion (F3) and the force perpendicular to connector plane
(F1) are supposed to act in the joist axis.
The torsion moment from the joist connection must be taken into
account for the design and the storage of the header.
The verification of the connection of the HVP connector to concrete or
steel elements must be led with the given shear force.
The given load-carrying capacities are valid on the condition that all
designed fasteners are built in.The header connections to concrete
or steel elements must be built with at least 2 fasteners in the upper
holes.

5. Tables of load-carrying capacity for Spax screws
In the following are given characteristic load-carrying capacities for a
connection where the joist is horizontally and vertically perpendicular
to the header (beam or column) for definite material combinations
(wood material and screws length).
As fasteners are used Spax-screws made of carbon steel with countersunk head according to ETA-12/0114.
NB:

Tables of load-carrying capacity for screws from other manufacturers are available on demand.

Pitzl HVP connectors are designed for use in service classes 1 and 2
The load-carrying capacities are given for loads in the direction of
insertion (F2),against the direction of insertion (F3) and perpendicular to the direction of insertion (F4) as well as perpendicular to the
connector plane (F1).
The force in the direction of insertion (F2),the force against the direction of insertion (F3) and the force perpendicular to connector plane
(F1) are supposed to act in the joist axis.
The torsion moment from the joist connection has to be taken into
account for the design and the storage of the header.
If the HVP connector is connected to concrete or steel elements, the
load-carrying capacity of the header metal anchors or screws shall be
additionally verified (cf.Part 3.3).The connection to concrete or steel
elements must be built with at least 2 fasteners in the upper holes.
The given load-carrying capacities are valid on the condition that all
designed fasteners are built in.

Design Manual connectors

Fast, simple and precise: for the best result

The eccentricities e2 and e45 for the determination of the load-carrying

capacity in the direction of insertion (F2) and the load-carrying capacity perpendicular to the direction of insertion (F4) are assumed as
follows: e2 elim and e45= 0.
If the force (F2) acts with an eccentricity e2 > elim,the load-carrying
capacity is to calculate according to the formula (9) (cf.Part 3.2).
If the force (F4) does not act in the centre of the HVP connector (for
example, for a front transom), the load-carrying capacity is to calculate
according to the formula (12)
(cf.Part 3.2).

For this the load-carrying capacities of the single screws according to

Table 2 can be used.
The combinations 5 and 6 allow to reduce the minimal timber sections (cf.Minimal timber sections page 17-21).
The both upper inclined screws of the header plate and the both
lower inclined screws of the joist plate are 120mm long.

6. Timber dimensions
6.1. Minimal timber dimensions and distances to the edges
Joist horizontally and vertically perpendicular to header:

In the following the minimal timber dimensions and distances to the edges are given for a connection with Spax screws of different
lengths where the joist is horizontally and vertically perpendicular to the header.
The minimal timber dimensions and distances to the edges are valid for the HVP connectors 8045 to 8320 for a loading in the direction
of insertion (F2).
For the HVP connectors high loads (8420 to 8460) they are valid for the loadings: in the direction of insertion (F2) and perpendicular to
connector plane (F1).
For other loadings and connection geometries the indications of the screws manufacturer and of the page 23 must be respected.

7. Connections to concrete
The load-carrying capacity of the concrete part (anchors and concrete) and the distance between the anchors and the edges must be calculated according to the corresponding current standards.
Fasteners of the concrete part per HVP connector:
HVP 8211B to 8320B:

4 x 12 mm high performance anchors with countersunk head, for example Fischer FH II 12/15 SK

HVP 8420B to 8440B:

4 x internal threaded anchors M12,for example Fischer RG 18 x 125 M 12 I

4 x screws with countersunk head M 12,steel quality 8.8 (inclusive in the delivery content)
HVP 8445B to 8460B:

6 x internal threaded anchors with M12 (or M16 according to static requirement),for example Fischer RG 18 x 125 M 12 I
6 x screws with countersunk head M12 (or M16 according to static requirement),steel quality 8.8 (inclusive in the delivery content)
The header-plates of HVP 8445B to 8460B comprise injection drilled holes in order to fill the gap between the screws and the connector-plate
and thus ensure an equal and simultaneous loading transmission of all screws and screw anchors.
Application example

NB:

HVP 8425B, 8435B, 8445B, 8450B, 8455B und 8460B are no carry articles.
Construction:

The construction instructions of the anchors manufacturer must be observed.

The anchors with internal screw thread can be fixed either with boreholes in the concrete wall and
injection mortar or by embedded anchor plates in concrete.
Anchor plates with welded internal threaded anchors ensure a precise and quick fixation
of the HVP connectors.
By the way the distances to the concrete edges can be reduced.
These anchor plates will be manufactured according to your requirement (structural engineering calculation).
