Warm-Up
Ask students to write down as many jobs as they can. The jobs should be of people
who work for the government. Give students three minutes to note their ideas.
Feed back as a class and allow students to write down any new words that other

Play the game following the instructions on Government Workers Guessing Game.
Hand out a copy of the Government Workers Guessing Game worksheet, or copy it
onto a transparency so that students can see the two boxes of jobs and questions.
Choose a job from the list but dont tell the students what you have chosen.
Tell the students they can ask you five questions from the box. Dont allow them to
simply ask Are you a teacher? or Are you a doctor?.
Filler
Hand out copies of the Government Workers Ideal Job Questionnaire. This is a
questionnaire that students can do together to find out their ideal job.
Depending on your answer, YES or NO, the student will be told to go to a certain
question. Make sure the students know which question to ask next.
Choose other students to read the next four questions, and find out your ideal job.
Students can repeat the activity in pairs. Ask them to read the questions to each other
rather than do the exercise silently.
There may be some new job vocabulary, depending on the students answers. Allow
them to ask you questions and teach any new words.
A fun extension to this activity is to choose a job and try to get to the right answer by
answering the questions correctly.
Closure
Hand out the Government Workers Revision Puzzles sheet and tell students to
complete the puzzles on their own. This is also a suitable activity for homework.
