Introduction
This lab will help the student understand how to install the Oracle Virtual Box as well as import and setup
of the ZFS Storage Appliance simulator.

VirtualBox Setup
Complete the following steps to setup VirtualBox:
1. If the instructor does not have the installation package then download the platform specific
installation package from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/serverstorage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html
2. Follow the installation steps found in Section 2 - Installation details of the User Manual, which
can be found at https://www.virtualbox.org/UserManual.pdf.

ZFS Storage Appliance Simulator Setup
Complete the following steps to setup the Sun ZFS Storage 7000 Simulator:
1. If the instructor does not have the simulator archive package then download it from
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/sun-unified-storage/downloads/sun-simulator1368816.html
2. Decompress the Sun ZFS Storage Simulator archive package to the local harddrive.
3. Start VirtualBox and select Import Appliance from the File menu.

4. Select Choose and the simulator OVF file and complete the steps in the VirtualBox Appliance
Import Settings wizard.

5. Select the simulator OVF file and complete the steps in the VirtualBox Appliance Import Settings
wizard.

6. Click Next.

7. Click Import. Note: Make sure that the Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards checked if you
import a second instance of the simulator. A second instance of the simulator is used for setting up the
replication lab.

8. Once the simulator has been imported, go to Settings then Networking and change the
Adapter 2/Attached to setting from Bridged Adapter to Host-Only Adapter. Select OK.

9. (Optional): Change the Simulator Name. This is useful when importing a second instance of the
simulator. Go to Settings then General/Basic and change the simulator name. Select OK.

10. This concludes the ZFS Storage Appliance Simulator Installation lab.
