Title: I Am a Responder to My Own Country

Semi Final Assignment for the subject of Political Science:
By. Hayag, Gary Sabuero
No, I am not in favor with Federalism in the Philippines.
To make my point, first I would like to define federalism. Federalism is commonly
defined as a system of a government in which sovereignty is constitutionally divided
between the national government and the smaller political subdivisions such as states
or provinces in which the central government authority and constituent political units can
have the power to create their own laws and protocols in its own state. In this way, the
central government authority has the power to govern the whole state whereas the local
government has a power to govern in a specific local region or province.
This kind of government, the individuals has its freedom to reach their concerns
about the problems in their places to the local government officials. In this case, the
local government becomes the mediator between the people of each provinces and the
central government authority. For instance, whenever that the central government
authority has goods to distribute to the Filipino citizens from the different provinces or
places, then, the local government will receive and immediately the goods will be in their
hands.
Moreover, the local government officials have the rights or total freedom to
disagree or agree against the central government authority for the state if ever they
implement laws for the state. Then, it follows that all the government officials have the
equal rights to over hand the situations of the state.
In a thing there are always good and bad parts. In the reality of local government
here in the Philippines has this tendency that one family governs one province at the
same position, and power in limitless terms. For instance, if Family A has a power to
govern over a province or a place, after his/her terms or in other words, in three years

the husband or the wife will replace the position, in order for them to keep that position
and power from the other individuals who are willing to govern their place; which leads
them to selfishness of power, and position. Too much self-centeredness is not good
because it results to ignorance power and position.
According to Socrates, (in the writings of Plato The Republic) until philosophers are
kings, or the kings of this world have philosophy, cities will never have rest from their
evils. However, if this federalism will be implemented in the Philippines, there will be
none stop of corruption of wealth. Also it promotes uneven distribution of wealth. Since
the national government will have no say on how each region develops, they will
develop in an uncoordinated fashion and at varying paces.
In addition, one province and another are not equal in the sense that Policies,
laws and development strategies that are apt for one region may not necessarily be
ideal for the other. Federalism allows regional governments to adopt policies that may
not be followed nationally. For instance, Manila, being a liberal world city, can allow
same-sex marriages, which may be banned in Muslim Mindanao. In this case, the
Muslim citizens might disobey there laws. So, if federalism will be implemented in the
Philippines it would concretize the destruction of peace in the Philippines, because
Filipinos always seeks for peace.
Ive come to the conclusion that federalism serves as barrier of peoples dreams.
