In this lesson, ss practice a receptive skill (listening) guessing what this


superhero is doing. The second activity, ss scan listening to check their
answers for exercise 4. In exercise 5 ss will be listening intensively to find the
answers. I will play the recording many times, my aim is to get the ss to
discuss together without helping. In Exercise 4, ss will be divided into groups
to discuss the questions using the new vocabulary, when they finish their
discussion teacher take wc FB Then ask Ss to listen again and replace the
words in italics with the words they hear. Finally, let Ss discuss these two
questions. 1. Do you think that Matt Lees and his friends did was funny or
irresponsible? 2. Do you know of any other untrue stories that have been
printed in the newspaper?

Procedure (35-50 minutes)


A (3-5 minutes) To set lesson context and engage students

Ask Ss to work in pairs to discuss the questions. I dont discuss or confirm


their answers at this stage. This will be done in the next exercise
Exposure (8-10 minutes) To provide a model of production expected in
coming tasks through listening

Tell Ss that they are now going to listen to an update on the news story about
Monkey Man. Ss listen to the recording and check their answers to the
questions in exercise 4.
Useful Language (10-15 minutes) To highlight and clarify useful
language for coming productive tasks
Ask Ss to read the sentences 15 and explain the exercise before I play the
recording. Tell Ss that when I play the recording again, they should listen out
for these sentences and replace the words in italics with the words that they
hear. Then let Ss work in pairs to discuss the questions.
