westoftheApalachicolaRiver.AstheEasternCentralzoneboundaryapproachestheGulfof
Mexico,itfollowstheBay/Gulfcountyline.
Indiana:AllofIndianaobservesEasternTimeexceptforsixnorthwesterncountiesintheChicago
metropolitanareaandsixsoutherncountiesintheEvansvillemetropolitanarea.
Until2006,theportionsofIndianawithintheEasternTimeZoneobservedEasternStandard
TimeyearroundexceptthatfivecountiesnearCincinnatiandLouisvillecustomarily
observedEasternDaylightTimedespitelegallybeingonEasternStandardTime.SeeTime
inIndiana.
Kentucky:Roughly,theeasternhalfofthestate,includingallofmetropolitanLouisvilleisinthe
EasternTimeZoneandthewesternhalfisintheCentralTimeZone,inclusiveofcountieslocated
totheeastofthecountiesofBreckinridge,Grayson,Hart,Green,Adair,Russell,andClinton,[2]
generallyanythingthatisnorthofMiddleTennessee.
Michigan:AllofMichiganobservesEasternTimeexceptforthefourcountiesintheUpper
PeninsulaalongtheborderwithWisconsin,whichobserveCentralTimeGogebic,Iron,
Dickinson,andMenominee.HistoricallytheentirestateobservedCentralTime.Whendaylight
savingtimewasfirstintroduced,theLowerPeninsularemainedonDSTafteritformallyended,
effectivelyrealigningitselfintotheEasternTimeZone.TheUpperPeninsulacontinuedto
observeCentralTimeuntil1972,whenallbutthefourcountiesnotedchangedtoEasternTime.

EasternTimeisalsousedsomewhatasadefactoofficialtimeforalloftheUnitedStates,sinceit
includesthecapital(Washington,D.C.)andthelargestcity(NewYorkCity).Nationalmedia
organizationswilloftenreportwheneventshappenedorarescheduledtohappeninEasternTimeevenif
theyoccurredinanothertimezone,andTVschedulesarealsoalmostalwayspostedinEasternTime.In
theUnitedStates,allnationallytelevisedmorningprograms(exceptGoodMorningAmericaWeekend
EditionwhichsomeABCaffiliatesontheeastcoastaironatapedelay),somedaytimetalkshows,

easternfeedforEasternandCentraltimezones,andatapedelayedwesternfeedforthePacificTime

TheBahamas,CaymanIslandsandHaitiofficiallyobservebothEasternStandardTimeduringthe
wintermonthsandEasternDaylightTimeduringthesummermonths.Cubaisusuallythesame,with
EasternStandardTimeinthewinter,andEasternDaylightTimeinthesummer,butitoftenchangeson
differentdays.TheTurksandCaicosIslandsusedtofolloweasterntimewithdaylightsavingbut
switchedin2015totheAtlanticTimeZone.
