SUNPATIENS VIGOROUS
SunPatiens Vigorous is the SunPatiens series most used
for landscape and mass plantings. Constant development
in these genetics has led to better control of the ratio
between vigour and plant habit, so that the new generation
of Vigorous SunPatiens is strong, well branched and with
well-controlled vigour, even in warmer climates. Vigorous
SunPatiens are recommended for use in (mass) beds and
large containers, and are ideal for economical, long-lasting
ground cover.
These developments in the SunPatiens Vigorous series
have incorporated the strong characteristics of the
Spreading Series - fast-fill in containers and good ground
cover. Therefore, we have decided to incorporate the
best genetics into the Vigorous series to oer one clearly

GROW SUNPATIENS COLD WITH GREAT RESULTS

SunPatiens, very well known for its excellent
heat tolerance, also tolerates cold temperatures!
Moreover, it tolerates colder temperatures than
most regular Impatiens New Guinea. Therefore
SunPatiens oers great advantages for both
consumers and growers.
For consumers, the better cold tolerance oers
great advantage for a broader use of SunPatiens as
a true bedding plant in colder climates, as well as in
Autumn.
For growers, the better cold tolerance oers the
advantage of saving heating costs when growing
plants. In addition, the colder conditions and
less use of PGRs keep the plants more compact,
resulting in a better plant habit, better plants
for transplanting outdoors and better garden
performance than other Impatiens New Guinea
varieties.
Schsisches Landesamt fr Umwelt, Landwirtschaft

und Geologie (LfULG) in Dresden conducted
research on a wide range of Impatiens New Guinea,
including SunPatiens. Plants were grown under two
dierent growing conditions, one with an average
day temperature of 14C and the other at an
average temperature of 19C.
All SunPatiens varieties in the test scored higher
in overall impression at 14C compared with plants
grown at 19C.
Recommendations for growing SunPatiens colder:

Keep temperature at 16 - 18C. in the first week or so after transplanting. This will allow the roots
to get a good start in the pot.
After plants are established, temperature can be lowered to an average day temperature of 14
15C. SunPatiens are rather flexible and can accept temperatures lower than 14C. as long as the
average temperature is kept at 14C.
Temperatures below 12C. are not recommended for a long period of time. When grown colder,
SunPatiens flowering delays with 2 to 3 weeks, depending on how cold they are grown.
