ABSTRACT
The need for automation has become a necessity in our everyday life and in every
business sector. Because of its large benefits it is gradually becoming widely
accepted. The large number of people who come to see the latest movies or come
to enjoy themselves in the cinema also arises a great problem of obtaining tickets
to get into the cinema. This is a flaw in the existing system because it is inefficient
to handle the work load and process information very fast hereby cause a long
queue outside the cinema This project seeks to solve that problem of standing in a
very long queue to obtain the ticket, it aims to automate the existing system by
which customers or individuals can book for the ticket of a particular movie the
wish to see, pay for the movie online and just obtain the ticket from the check-in
point easily with no stress involved with less time. It seeks to alleviate the problem
of stressful acquiring of movie tickets and also created the chance for those who. It
also seeks to improve on the flaws of the existing system.

1.0

INTRODUCTION

A movie theater, cinema, movie house, picture theater, film theater is a venue,
usually a building, for viewing motion pictures ("movies" or "films").
Most but not all movie theaters are commercial operations catering to the general
public, who attend by purchasing a ticket. The movie is projected with a movie
projector onto a large projection screen at the front of the auditorium. Some movie
theaters are now equipped for digital cinema projection, removing the need to
create and transport a physical film print
The movie theatre can come in different types there is the normal movie theatre
that has one screen projecting and then there is the multiplex which is capable of
showing two movies at the same time. A megaplex comprises of both the cinema
and other sections like malls, eateries
The movie theatre is a very interesting and effective business venture, the movie
theatre right from its inception has been a great revenue generating venture for
both governments corporation and also individuals.
Also the movie theatre serves as a great relaxation area and also a means of
entertainment and great social meeting centre for individuals. People who go to
movie theatre range from movie fanatics to normal individuals who just go there to
have a great time and just unwind. And enjoy a good movie. The movie theatre is
really a great area to explore.

the prevalent view in various global circled is that man is presently living in an age
of explosive growth of information gathering, processing and dissemination,
popularly called the information Age, for this reason, manager and other users of
information in movie cinemas management and other users of information in other
businesses are demanding for more information to support management and
business operations. They must therefore respond to increase requirements for
information and data management.
The Silverbird Group is one the largest entertainment companies in Nigeria and
Africa. Consisting of Silverbird Entertainment, Silverbird Cinema, Rhythm FM
and MBGN, it is thought to be third largest media entertainment company in
Western Africa.
Founded by Ben Murray in 1980, the group has grown to a diverse holding of
Radio, TV, beauty pageant sponsor and movie distribution via its Cinema holdings
in Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia and Kenya. The group is credited for bringing back
Cinema to Lagos, Nigeria in 2004, and establishing the Ghana's first-ever Cineplex
of five theaters fully equipped to international standards and with Dolby digital
surround sound and contiguous with a media store.
Even with all these achievement silverbird cinema still employ a manual way of
data processing and ticket sales, which slow down their speed of service when
attending to the crowd that troupe in daily into the cinema.
This project seeks to improve on the manual system and automate it for better
service quality.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In movie ticket reservation system the problem that is mainly encountered is the
gathering of information. The following questions need to be considered when
starting out the problem.

Can the use of manual operation be more efficient during booking of a

seat for a movie?

Can the manual operation be able to reach operation standards of the

movie theatre management in terms of speed and/or when there is
increase in demand?

Can it be able to detect any efficiency such as fraudulent activity by the

staff and give proper account of the daily transaction?

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

With the application of computer in movie theatre system, the following can be
achieved.
EFFICIENCY:

There is constant information about the different operations

carried out thus increasing competence.

SPEED: There is quick, prompt and an increase in the rate of progress of the
operational standard of the organization.
ACCOUNTABILITY:

Fraudulent activities are eliminated and the correct

billings if each customer is do hereby providing a security check.

The primary aim of introducing computers is to provide efficiency in producing

timely information and ensuring proper billing mechanism.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The main importance of this project is that it increases the efficiency in the
operations of Astoria Hotel Enugu.
The design and development of an online movie ticket reservation system
improves customer relations by alleviating the long queues experience when trying
to obtain a ticket. It is very significant because it helps to speed the ticket obtaining
process and also make the process much easier and assessable.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The program of this project is brut (that is, customized) to handle customers
booking seat reservation for a particular movie displayed on the website of the
movie theatre they indicate their interest and pay online for the ticket and receive
the ticket on arrival at the movie theatre ticket movie. The attendant than goes
through the database to confirm booking then issues the ticket to the customers.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

In the course of the research work the following circumstances were encountered.

There was restriction of information by the case study and a lot of

protocols were passed.

Operational failure of some of the devices in use

Unavailability of time for the research work to be properly and

comprehensively carried out.

ASSUMPTIONS

It is taken for granted that the guidelines in reserving seats in the hall are correct
and the procedures for billing a customer are stable. It is equally assumed that the
right type of compute hardware and software are acquired.
The researcher also assumed that the management has trained staff or can afford to
train the staff who will handle the new system will be implemented have been
provided for.

DEFINITION OF TERMS / VARIABLES

MOVIE THEATRE
A building or commercial establishment where movies are shown for public
entertainment.
BOOKING
An arrangement by which something such as a theater seat is kept for somebodys
use at a specific time.
MANUAL PROCESSING
Any type of processing that is not controlled automatically, that is, it is done using
hands.

A detailed sequence of instructions in codes that control the operations of a
computer in solving a particular problem or application.
COMPUTER
An electronic device that can accept and process data according to a series of
instructions (program) and give out information as output, which it can also store.
DATA
This is a term use to describe basic facts (unprocessed information) about the
activities of a business.
INFORMATION
The collected and facts and data about a specific subject.
ONLINE:
Connected through computer attached to or available through a central computer or
computer network.
OFFLINE
Disconnected from computer network. The describes a computer terminal or
peripheral device that is disconnected or is functioning separately from associated
computer network.
AUTOMATION

or process has been converted to on that replaces or minimizes human labor with
electronic or mechanical equipment. This is also a system of manufacture to extend
the capacity of machines to perform certain tasks formerly done by humans and to
control sequences of operations without human intervention.
DATABASE
A systematically arranged collection of computer data, structured, organized for
storage in a computer memory and designed for easy access by authorized users.
The data may be in form of text, numbers, or encoded graphics.
