    Milan Chatterjee, the Graduate Student Body President at UCLA, sent a letter to several university administrators requesting legal support. He states that Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) filed a legal complaint against him and then defamed his reputation through a blog post. Chatterjee believes SJP's actions were in response to him referring them to UCLA's legal department after they requested documentation from him. He also expresses disappointment in the Diversity Caucus, which is sponsored by UCLA, for their role in the situation. Chatterjee is requesting UCLA provide him with legal counsel to address the defamation from SJP's legal complaint and blog post.

    I'mwritingtofilealegalcomplaintagainstStudentsforJusticeinPalestine.
    OnNovember19th,2015,SJPleaderssentmeanemailrequestingdocumentation.Sincetheyretainedattorneys
    andfiledalegalletterwiththeChancellor,IreferredthemtoUCLA'slegaldepartment.AfterSJPfollowedupwith
    administrators,theyreleasedthefollowingblogpost,makingabaselessaccusationofmenotbeingtransparent.
    Pleaseseetheaccusationandemailexchangehere:http://www.sjpbruins.com/newsopinion/gsapresident
    refusestoprovidedocumentationofpoliciesandvotes.
    SinceSJPfiledalegalcomplaint,andinvokedmyname,IhavetherighttoreferthemtoUCLA'slegal
    department.This,however,doesnotgivethemtherighttodefamemyreputation.Ibelievethey'vedoneenough
    defamationbycirculatinganinaccuratelegalcomplainttothemedia.Furthermore,theycontinuetodefamemy
    reputationwithnonsensicalblogposts.
    Underthesecircumstances,IrequestforUCLAtoprovidemewithlegalcounsel.IfUCLAisnotabletoprovide
    thisresource,IrequestforUCLAtoreimbursemeforhiringoutsidelegalcounsel.
    Secondly,I'mverydisappointedbytheharshpoliticsbeingplayedbyarmsoftheadministration.
    TheDiversityCaucuswascreatedundertheGraduateStudentResourceCenter.TheyapproachedmeforGSA
    tofinanciallysponsoratownhallwithVCJerryKang.WhileGSAdoesnothaveafundingbodyforevents,we
    foundittobeaworthycause,andallocated$2,000inadhocfundingfortheevent.
    IexplicitlytoldMs.ManpreetDhillon,thattheneutralitystipulationappliesnotjusttoBDS,butany
    countermovementoverthephone.ShefailedtodisclosethisfacttoSJPortheirattorneys,forwhateverreasons.
    Obviously,herroleinthiscomplaintiscentral,becauseshebackchanneledemailswherenobodybutherselfwas
    copied.
    IfinditverydisappointingthatwhenI'mworkingwithorganizationssponsoredbytheUCLAadministrationona
    professionalbasis,they'reengaginginsuchunprofessionaltacticsandpolitics,leadingtomyunnecessary
    defamation.
    Thirdly,assenioradministrators,youreceivedalegalcomplaintinvokingastudent'sname.Asatuitionpaying
    student,youhaveadutytoprovidemewiththenecessarysupport,andhelpmeprotectmyreputationfrom
    hostiletacticslikethis.Thisshouldespeciallybethecase,sincethisinaccuratelegalcomplaintisbeingcirculated
    tothemedia.
    I'mverydisappointedthatneitherthelegaldepartmentnoryouhavereachedouttome.WhileImetwithMikeand
    Roy,thismeetingdidnotaddressthelegalramificationsofthisinaccurateanddefamatorylegalcomplaint.
    IrespectfullyforrequestUCLAtoprovidemewiththenecessarylegalsupporttostopthisdefamation.
